~ VEHICLE DETAILS & HISTORY:This is a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal, four door sedan. This car had the BIG rear fins a year before Chevy did. The body styling on the mid to late 50s Dodge cars was called the Forward Swept look. It has a stock interior and the front suspension and brakes are stock. I am the 4th owner. The history that I was told was the second owner was going to rebuild the original Red Ram V-8, but decided it was going to be too expensive and he already had a hot rod 350 Chevy engine with a 350 turbo transmission sitting around. He installed those with a Mustang II floor shifter. It has a 4 bbl Holley Double Pumper carb with a special intake manifold, Electronic Ignition. Engine runs good, sounds nice, seems to have good compression. I believe the valve stem seals may be leaking a little though. Never had any problems with the transmission, it has always been strong. It is plumbed with dual exhaust, glass packs that come out of the Chevy bowtie exhaust manifolds. It is a very fun car to drive. This is obviously not a numbers matching car.

~ When I got the vehicle it still had the rear axle that was original to the car in 1956. The gear ratio was too low for a daily driver (almost like driving around in 2nd gear). I pulled a rear end out of a '68 Plymouth with a 3.23 sure-grip (limited slip) and had it professionally installed at a hotrod shop here in town. The driveline universal joints were replaced at the same time. I later installed Gabriel Hi-Jacker air shocks on that rearend. Note: the front end suspension and brakes are all original 1956 stock Dodge equipment including the vacuum assisted power brakes. I replaced bellows style vacuum assist unit a few years ago.

~ The radiator better than stock. It was a 2 core out of an International Scout. The engine was overheating on warm days. I pulled the radiator and took it to a reliable radiator shop and had it rebuilt. It is nowheavy duty with 4 cores, ...that fixed the overheating problem.

~ Both the front and rear seats have the original stock upholstery, but it is shot. There is enough of it there though that it could be used as a reference to find and replace it with the same or similar stock pattern and material if desired. Both front and back seats are covered by aftermarket slip-on seat covers which are not in very good shape either. The vehicle does have 6 seat belts which is really great if you have kids.

~ Almost two thirds of the original headliner is gone and the carpet is also original and both need replacement. A couple of the door panels are really rough.

~ The driver's door window was cracked and removed by the previous owner. I pulled it out and took it to a professional glass shop had a new window cut using the old one for a pattern, but the new one still needs to be installed.

~ The body has only minor rust, the drivers floor has some pin holes in it. Replacement pans are available on the internet. The front right fender is dented a bit. The worst about the body is the driver's door and front fender are dented. This happened when I was going to coast the car a couple of feet down the slightly inclined driveway with the door ajar. With I went to brake and stop the brake pedal went to the floor because of a leaking front wheel cylinder. Unfortunately my other vehicle was parked about 6 inches closer to the driveway than what there was room for me to clear it. That was a bad day. My Dodge has been parked since that happened as I haven't had both the money and the time to fix it at the same time.

~ The car was originally a tri-color. Seafoam Green (an official factory name and color) is the current color. Originally it was on the bottom part of the car, Black was on the middle of the hood and running down the sides above the stainless trim and up on the trunk deck, and the roof was White. The entire car was repainted in the original Mopar "Seafoam Green" probably 20 or 30 years ago. (You can search the internet for examples of what the car's original Tri-Color paint scheme looked like.) The current black accents on the trunk and hood were painted by me several years ago.
