1968 Dodge Coronet --

Dodge went on a health kick in the 60s with the Coronet. First the car lost some size and weight. Then they sent it to the gym for some strength training, and then to the styling department for some wardrobe adjustments. The results of those labors is this '68. It's healthy, good looking and ready to roll. Once you're all that, you might as well dress up in Orange so everybody knows it when you roll in.... If their first glimpse of the car is from the side, they may notice the Super Bee stripe first. As you take in the bigger picture of the car, you see that it has an aggressive stance with long rectangular body lines that sit a bit higher in the rear. The effect is enhanced by rear fenders that are all pumped up and muscular. Up front there is a simple black grill with Dodge in script and a Super Bee badge flanked by quad headlights and underlined by a shiny chrome bumper. The hood has a power bulge to clear the air filter sitting underneath it. From the rear you get the full effect of those flared fenders and get a full view of the stripe along with another sharp bumper. Open the door and you will find a fresh Black interior that is as nicely dressed out as the body. The door panel has vertical patterns top and bottom separated by a center panel that echoes the body lines of the car. Pleated bucket seats look super sharp with an accent at the top of the seat backs and thin chrome edging the seat frames. A black three-spoke deep dish steering wheel has a semicircular chrome horn ring with a column mounted tachometer just behind it. There is a shifter and indicator for the automatic transmission and a neat and clean dash panel with sweep speedometer flanked by engine gauges with controls in the panel below it. The stock radio is still in place but there is also an aftermarket radio cleverly mounted below the dash that is AM/FM/CD and iPod compatible for your listening pleasure. Pop the hood you will find a healthy 360 cubic inch engine that makes honest, 1960s style horsepower. It is topped by a highly polished air topper that sits tucked up inside the power bulge when the hood is down. A Holley carb sits under that air filter and feeds its mixture to stock heads through a factory intake. Black and ribbed aluminum valve covers look great in the orange engine bay and help the engine a bit with oil cooling. Long tube headers are pleasantly visible in this engine bay so can be clearly seen smoothly winding their way out the bottom to the dual exhaust system. There are signs of good routine maintenance like a newer brake booster for the power front disc brakes that will become so important if you decide to let this Super Bee buzz a bit. Power is sent back through a three-speed automatic transmission and the rubber meets the road through 245/60R14 BFGoodrich Radial T/As mounted on black and polished steel wheels. Healthy, good looking and ready to roll. Come on down and check it out. You may decide to roll it on home.
