Description:

1971 Dodge Charger Special Edition

The Dodge Charger SE (Special Edition) was the top of the line Charger in 1971. This particular Special Edition was Special Indeed!
This very rare car was equipped with the Rare "U" Code, 440 Motor, according to sources, 1 of only 662 produced and came with an abundance of Rare and Unique Options. 1971 was the last year of the high impact colors and this one is a rare factory issued FC7 Plum Crazy Purple car, recognized today as one of the most sought after cars of the era. Previous ownership was adamant of this being a 1 of 1 car based on all the rare options, and after much research I have never seen nor heard of another 1971 factory FC7 Plum Crazy Purple Charger Special Edition (SE) "U" code 440 / 4 barrel with Factory AC with a white canopy roof & white stripe. Also interesting note, the 440 4 barrel / auto was the highest grade motor option to get Factory Air in 1971, both the six pack and the Hemi was not an option. Also, all vin's are there, windshield, door, bulkhead, radiator support, etc. and are all original.Fender and vin tags were sent and verified by Mopar guru David Wise and report comes with sale of car.Previous ownership also claims the bulge hood was dealer installed, nonetheless with the concealed headlamps and split grill it gives a menacing look up front!

Very rare and desirable piece of Mopar history. This was the last year of the high horsepower cars, 1971 was it! Only a couple minor details to do in the near future, gas gauge does not work, sending unit is needed (minor fix) or you constantly fill up to ensure you don't run out of gas, which is what I do! AC DOES WORK as do the door headlight motors, which rarely is the case. I had a professional AC guy rebuild everything and just recharged the R12 as well an electrical guy rebuild the headlight motor, relay, etc. The paint is driver quality, few scratches and blemishes, but it's only has one repaint in its life time so I've chosen to leave it alone, keep the patina, but if you are a perfectionist then paint may be an option. Lastly, previous owner put a shift kit in the trans, so when stopping I throw in neutral and then shift to drive, trans is good and go's in high and low gear just fine. I recently put all new exhaust, don't mind the old undercarriage pic with old exhaust shown, also added factory machine gun tips. There's some surface rust in the trunk area, but nothing cancerous, still very solid underneath and in trunk. I can complete the sending unit if you choose or will leave for the next owner. Other than that, everything works and looks good! Asking only $39,900 OBO. Serious buyers only please. Updated photos coming soon!
