Description:

1970 Dodge Dart Swinger

For Sale is an Factory original 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 that has been completely restored to better than new condition. The body was professionally restored by U.S. Car Tool in North Carolina and still retains all of its original sheet metal (except trunk lid). The body was plucked out of Georgia and was rust free when the restoration began (I have pictures of complete process). All the factory body stampings are still visible on the frame rails, trunk extensions, inner fenders, ect...the body was media blasted and painted on a rotisserie in its original factory Ek2 Go Mango color. This car was put back exactly as it came from the factory with the exception of the engine since it was missing at the time of the restoration, what now powers this beautifully restored Mopar is none other than a 371 six pack personally built by the late legendary Mr. Tom Hoover. The “Farther of the Hemi” built this engine back in 1971 to take to Chrysler sponsored Performance Clinics to show what you achieve with using factory off the shelf parts.

The Swingers front suspension is completely rebuilt using Moog replacement parts and powder coated K frame, sway bars and control arms. The rear suspension and the 8 3/4 rear end housing is completely rebuilt with a 3.55 sure grip center section and has all new leaf springs and bushings.

The Brakes are rebuilt factory original Kelsey Hayes disc brakes up front and rebuilt drum brakes in the rear. The Master Cylinder is an Aluminum kit from Dr Diff and features a 15/16” bore for maximum line pressure for improved stopping.

The Wheels are reproduction 15”x 7” Rallye style made by Wheel Vintiques and still has the factory small 5 x 4” bolt circle. Tires are B.F Goodrich T/A radials 215/65R15 up front and 235/60R15 in the rear.

The Interior features an all new Legendary interior, the Rallye gauges were sent out to Instrument specialties for a complete rebuild and include a factory in dash tachometer upgrade. Every seal and weather stripping has been replaced and the glass is all new from AMD (Auto Metal Direct).

The Body has been completely stripped through media blasting and except for a few small rust repair issues andstill has all the body panels it left the factory with, except for the trunk lid which had some rust in the lip area and was easier to just replace with a rust free part. The bumpers are re-chromed and al the stainless and aluminum trim has been polished or replaced. The grille has been professionally restored by Mike Ross at B E & A in Litchfield, Ohio.

The Special and historic documented engine was built by legendary Chrysler hall of fame inductee Tom Hoover and started with a handpicked 360 block that Mr. Hoover sourced from Mopar Missile Works and was specifically chosen after sonic checking to ensure maximum wall thickness and features special 355 NASCAR connecting rods that were taken off the shelf of Richard Petty’s place, new six pack heads, titanium valve train, intake and carburetors were taken off the shelf back in the day for this engine, the pistons are .020 over 340 pitons and the final compression ratio is 11: 1. There are several articles of this engine written in various magazine publications dating back to Popular Hot Rodding (1976). The 727 transmission was built by Dick Oldfield (Mopar Missile fame) and features a stock A905 hemi torque converter.

This car has also been featured in the August 2015 Mopar Action magazine.

The 2nd Picture isMr. Hoover verifying that is his original motor during the build at Carlisle, the 3rd picture is his signature on the inner fender.
