For those eager to cruise Route 66 in a ’66 car, MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 two-door hardtop pro street that has undergone an extensive nut and bolt restoration. It was built on June 21, 1966, just west of our shop at the former Fenton Chrysler assembly plant. It left the factory with the following options: Music Master AM radio, center console and front bucket seats. This was also originally an expedited/sold vehicle, meaning someone ordered it.
Finished in Turbine Bronze, the car’s paint and trim are in overall excellent shape. Its tinted windows are crack-free and look great. The car’s lights are in overall very good order, included the H2 headlights with relays and LED parking lights complete with dimmer switch. This Coronet rides on Magnum 500 wheels, 7x15 in front with special-built rear wheels, 8x15.5, surrounded by BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, 245/60R15 in front and 275/60R15 in back.
All of this Mopar’s body panels are in straight and solid, including the bumpers, the engine bay is extremely tidy and the battery appears new. Underneath the hood is a non matching Summit Racing 408 CID Stroker V-8 engine mated to a Mopar 833 four-speed manual transmission and backed by a Dana 8-3/4 Powr-Lok 3.23 rear end. The engine’s and transmission’s specifications are listed above. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, power steering and power brakes.
Inside, the car’s new original style interior has been upgraded in places. The original front bucket and rear vinyl bench seats are in excellent condition. The matching black carpet is in similar order, as is the headliner. The courtesy lights flash on when the driver’s door opens. The padded instrument panel, with its full instrumentation, looks fantastic. Below the dash are three aftermarket gauges for engine coolant, oil pressure and ammeter. Facing the driver is a Flaming River polished tilt steering column with Tuff Wheel three-spoke steering wheel. The interior conversation piece is the Hurst pistol grip shift handle. The inner door panels are in very good order and there’s a mechanical control for the sideview mirror. The mirror glass and center console with dual cupholders are in very good order. Cool-Tec matting has been used throughout the interior. For a bit of whimsy, the door lock plungers are topped with black dice. Completing the interior is the original AM radio with a modern AM/FM CD mounted out-of-sight with a remote control.
This car was restored by the Old Schoolman Builder of head-turning Mopars and muscle cars and has received multiple invitations to the best of the best shows; i.e. Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals in Chicago; Monster Mopar at Gateway, Illinois; Cobblestone Nationals; and won trophies in St. Louis and Midwest. Trophies include First, Second and Third place for:
Best in Class
Best in Paint
