Description:

1949 Dodge Power Wagon POWER WAGON B-1-PW

1949 Dodge Power Wagon,
Civilian model 4x4,long bed, built in limited quantities yearly after the war into the 1960s. These were slow, heavy duty, expensive and virtually unstoppable trucks. These were NOT your regular Dodge pickup trucks nor were they military trucks (which people tend to often confuse with).
I've owned this truck for nearly 30 years. It was built in Los Angeles CA. Its unrestored and a true survivor, original equipment, not pieced together from several different trucks like some you may find. I am believed to be third owner. Fire department owned it for a scout vehicle to check fire roads and breaks for 20 years in CA, than sold to a rancher in Santa Barbara area, owned it for about 20 years, than I purchased it in the early 1990s and had it ever since. It spent 99% of its life in good old dry weather CA, moved here to IA and kept indoors past few years. I have a house and other things I have to work on, limited time and lack of indoor parking are some of the factors in my decision on selling this.
Original engine was overhauled and radiator was re-cored when I first acquired the truck, only has about 1200 miles and several oil changes on it since. Runs and drives very good. Always starts right up hot or cold weather out, even after long periods of non use. They are geared low hence you won't get too many speeding tickets.
Over the last year or so, I had all of the differentials fitted with new seals/gaskets, transmission resealed, transfer case gaskets replaced too, etc etc. Front ball axle joints rebuilt, new wheel cylinders, brake lines, master cylinder rebuilt, new wiring harness (6 volt) and more. Spent quite a bit of money and time getting that all done but, good now for another 50 years!
Solid CA truck, cab in excellent unrestored condition, bed is a bit banged up as you might expect but, presentable and good for its age. Just call it patina, and shes got plenty of it! Basically very complete, mostly straight, original and solid. All of the panels, fenders, running boards, doors, cab etc are all the original equipment it came with. Cab and floors solid. Two out of its 5 tires are near new. This truck is equipped with PTO Braden Winch and the period correct rear Carnagie heavy duty step bumper. Front bumper was modified at some point in time but, looks good and certainly is tough enough.
It may require paint, basic interior (seat, headliner), fresh flat glass and weather stripping depending on what level you want to bring it to? Basically, just needs cosmetics, the fun part. The hard work has been completed. People love it the way she sits as it is! This truck did came factory red! Parts new and used, are readily available for maintenance or restoration needs. Mechanically very sound.
