Description:

1981 DeLorean DMC-12 Manual Transmission

This is the model everyone wants!
My wife jokingly suggested I start my listing with those words. But it is true!
This five speed DeLorean features the grooved hood featured in the BTTF trilogy.
Assets:
Brand new clutch! Purchased from Special-T-Auto and installed by the best Transmission shop around!
The torsion bars are properly adjusted and new gas struts have been installed on the Gull-Wing Doors. These doors open perfectly, o droop, and more important they don't "slam" open!
I recently fabricated and installed Stainless Steel roof panels to replace the rusty steel panels originally used in this area (under the stainless steel exterior T-panel). I'll be happy to explain this upgrade in more detail when you come to see the car.
Grooved (non-Gas-Flap) Hood, ust like the BTTF "Time Machine"
Beautiful Driver side front fender. This is one of the "irreplaceable" panels of the car, his one is in fantastic shape! (It seems when opened, ll the remaining crates marked right fender had right fenders in them and the crates marked left fender, ore right fenders. . .)
All new Silicone coolant hoses (included with the car, ost have not been installed yet)
Windows operate properly (Lots of folks have asked about this, t seems it's a common problem area.)
New metal door handles on both sides recently purchased from DMC and installed.
New rear view mirror also purchased from DMC.
New DMC throttle cable recently installed
Brand new parcel tray net!
Battery recently replaced (about nine months ago).
Description:
This DeLorean features a black interior with dark grey carpet. It is my opinion that the black interior looks much nicer than the alternative light gray and the darker color and carpet help prevent or hide blemishes and stains. The car also comes with black removable heavy duty DMC floor mats.
The DMC-12 has matching tread pattern Dunlop tires on all four corners. Last I checked Dunlop ws the only company providing both tire sizes with the same tread pattern. The front tires were replaced soon after I purchased the car ten years ago. As such they could stand to be replaced soon-ish. The rear tires were replaced several years later and still show well.
The radio has been upgraded to a contemporary DIN style head unit and an 8" subwoofer is tucked into the compartment behind the driver's seat. An amp to power the sub has been installed behind the rear carpeted "bulkhead" behind the parcel shelf, nd would probably benefit from more ventilation. I installed new rear speakers several years ago, hich is a laborious project! The front speakers have since died, ut are easy to access and should be a breeze to replace. Unfortunately the head unit recently died. I would replace it but I probably wouldn't pick the one you want, o I'll leave that up to you.
The inner door seals are present and functional but worn. The outer door seals are mostly missing.
The original plastic glove box is starting to crack up. I'm currently working on creating a replacement out of sheet metal (aluminum.) I hope to have it fabricated and fitted by the end of the auction.
Room for Improvement:
The engine has recently developed a "tick" -- Sounds like a top-end issue.
This is a running DeLorean, owever that doesn't mean that it is turn-key. It is sometimes difficult to start. With patience and a few tricks I am able to get it started after a few minutes. I'm sure you can too. Once it's running, you're good! - A trip to DMC or a knowledgeable Volvo mechanic would likely sort out the starting issue (likely a fuel system component).
Several of the dash area trim pieces, ncluding the binnacle, ave cracked and will need to be repaired or replaced.
The T-panel (Roof) will need to be reworked or replaced. The previous owner damaged it when adjusting the doors torsion bars.
The air conditioning system has a small leak and will also need to be converted to R134.
The rear louver could stand to be replaced. The previous owner had repaired it but it could use some more attention.
There is a small rusty spot on the frame, here the heat off of the radiator blows on the frame. I have made my best attempt of photographing the underside without a rack.
The front and rear fascias need to be repainted. most of the paint has simply fallen off of the front fascia.
The fuel pump cover and fuel pump boot should be replaced soon (I would have replaced them but decided that the car's new owner might prefer to upgrade to a new fuel pump assembly.)
The head liners will need to be replaced. The door portions show age and the center section is gone.
I purchased this car from DMC Florida about ten years ago, nd it has been a blast! Everywhere I go people stop to talk with me. I always invite folks to have a seat, hich typically leads to a picture or two. This may be the most featured DeLorean on Facebook... In traffic, uys of all ages offer a thumbs up, nd girls tend to notice it too. I hate to see my dream car go, specially after all these years and memories, ut I now have two kids and it just isn't practical for us to use it much or justify investing any more money in its upkeep. It is time for the car to go to a new owner who has the time and enthusiasm to love and enjoy it!
As with any used car, strongly encourage you to come and see the car prior to bidding. I intend to be reasonably available to show the car this week. Drop me a line and we will figure out a time that we can meet.
If you are new to the DeLorean world, t might be helpful to know that nearly any replacement or service part you could need is available thru DeLorean Motor Company, pecial-T-Auto and similar companies.
If you are considering purchasing a DMC-12, ou probably don't need me to tell you about the Giorgetto Giugiaro designed body, r the "Lotus Handling" of these beautiful cars, o I''l leave that to Wikipedia...
