Enjoy the thorough information below. Such comprehensive information/photos/video footage is provided for prospective buyers to be confident that this 260Z is for them. Purchase this vehicle with the utmost confidence. I am an experienced Datsun enthusiast. I have sold other vehicles via Ebay nationwide and worldwide with 100% positive feedback.

Intro:

For your consideration is this very original and excellent condition "early" Datsun 260Z and presents as it should for having traveled only 51,000 miles! This Z is an example that is perfectly suitable for the collector that wants a very original vehicle and is suitable for the enthusiast that wants a collectable vehicle they can drive and enjoy. This super solid 260Z retains its original paint color, code 305 Light Blue Metallic, having been professionally repainted once. The beige interior is all original and is in great condition with NO cracks in the dash. The engine is numbers matching and is unmodified. The transmission is the original four speed manual. This is the better looking early 260Z which has the smaller bumpers and also has the SU flat top carburetors instead of the downdraft Webber. This 260Z also has the factory air conditioner.

We have some documentation. This Z was purchased new at Jim Smith Datsun in Peoria, IL and has a manufacturing date of 6/74. Some of the original service stamps are present in the owner's manual. The car at one point was kept in a climate controlled storage and not used for many years. A significant amount of recent maintenance has been performed over the past couple years to get the Z roadworthy. Receipts for that work are provided. This is a premium example of a 260Z that is ready to be enjoyed!

    Exterior:

The finish, body, and exterior of this 260Z are in impressive shape and in the condition as expected for the low miles. It has been repainted once, and was done so professionally. The repaint was due to the original paint having aged, not due to an accident. The exterior was stripped to bare steel prior to the repaint. The quality of the current finish is not necessarily of Concours spotless show car quality but is definitely extremely presentable and was professionally done. It is a base with a clearcoat. It is very glossy and has good depth. All of the panels were painted at the same time thus all of the panels match in terms of tint, glossiness, etc. From about five feet away it looks pretty much looks perfect.

The body itself on this Z is impressive. One can tell that it has been taken care of. It is extremely solid. No rust repair is evident. The floors are original and are excellent top and bottom. Absolutely no rust issues under the battery tray. No bubbles or issues noted in the area in front of the rear wheels. The subframe behind the front wheels is solid. Door jambs are excellent. Hatch jamb and lip is excellent. This is a very solid Z car! There is no evidence of accidents. Each corner top and bottom is straight, as are the wheel wells and front end under the hood. The body panels over line up nicely and are straight. The doors open and close super easily (see the video). There are a couple hard to see door dings. Every panel is believed to be original.

The rest of the exterior is in very nice shape and to be expected for the low mileage. The glass is all Nissan/Datsun glass and is excellent. The hubcaps have been restored and are the best shape "Z" hubcaps I have seen! The bumper chrome is original and is presentable. The front has some dings in it. The rubber on the bumpers is excellent and is NOT dry cracking. The other weatherstripping throughout is very good. The emblems are in nice shape and the "Z" pillar emblems are new. Absent are the absolutely ugly dealer additions like the side molding, bumper overriders, or extra passenger mirror. This is as about as stock as it gets. It looks how it should and is in impressive shape! It is the type of car you can just sit and admire in the garage or enjoy taking out for a drive.

    Interior:

The interior of this 260Z is the difficult to find beige option. It is a slightly cream type color for most of the vinyl and brown for the carpeting. From what I can tell, and from the history, absolutely everything in this interior is original factory installed pieces. It thus presents as it should for the low mileage but also has some patina for being 43 years old! The carpet is presentable throughout with some more expected wear on the driver floor mat. The brown looks good. The underside of the carpeting is kind of crusty. The jute is still present and is in nice shape. The cream vinyl throughout is in very nice shape. The driver bolster of course shows some wear but otherwise is in nice shape. The passenger seat is great. There are a few minor cuts in the back sides of the seats which must be from transporting of items in the back. The door panels are great. The transmission tunnel vinyl also is very good. There are a few orange'ish spots throughout on some areas of the vinyl but it is not excessive or distracting from the presentation of the car. The dash is excellent. Absolutely no cracks. Gauge faces, switches, dials, stalks, etc. are all very nice as well. The steering wheel and horn pad is excellent, and presents as it should for the low mileage. Center console is excellent and does not have dry cracking. This is a very complete and stock condition interior down to the seat belt hanger clips that are still intact. More evidence for the low mileage is the lack of wear on the seat belts and just general overall condition of the interior. There are no odd smells, no evidence of smoking, etc. Super nice condition interior that needs nothing.

    Mechanical:

As stated, this 260Z retains its factory supplied drivetrain and is completely unmodified. The engine is the numbers matching L26 with the proper E88 head. It still retains the proper flat top SU carburetors. The transmission is the original four speed manual. The suspension, brakes, and related are in original specification as well. The Z runs and drives very nicely, as it should. It has received some extensive maintenance in the past few years getting it really sorted out and to reliable road worthy condition. Some of this maintenance includes:

    -Carburetors rebuilt

-Engine head rebuilt (valves were sticking, thus seals and valves replaced)

-New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.

    -Radiator reconditioned

-Fuel tank reconditioned, fuel filter, etc.

    -New fuel sending unit

-New electric and manual fuel pumps

    -Oil changes of course

    -New battery

    -New cooling hoses

    -New clutch

-Clutch slave and master cylinders replaced, new fluid

-Brake master cylinder replaced, new rubber brake hoses, new fluid

-New front calipers, rotors, pads, and wheel bearings

    -New tires

The choke works and the engine starts easily whether warm or cold. It keeps a proper temperature when driving. Oil pressure is good. The engine goes through the RPM range just fine. Absolutely no puffs of smoke or issues like that. No fluid drips. Smog pump is present, disconnected, but spins freely. This is a factory aircondition equipped car. All A/C parts look to be present and in good shape. If someone though wants to actually use the A/C they would need to convert it to R134a and have it serviced. These Datsun/Nissan transmissions are pretty bullet proof and usually do not have any issues. This four speed transmission shifts great. Absolutely no grinding. No issues like popping out of gear or anything. Clutch pedal feels great. No wines from the rear end. No rear end drivetrain clunks either. The brakes are great and as stated have been serviced. The steering acts as it should. Note in the video the steering wheel when driving slightly is to the left but the car does not pull either which way. It is a matter of the steering wheel could be recentered. The passenger side rear strut cartridge should be replaced thus, might as well do both rears. The car though does go down the road straight and rides comfortably as shown in the video.

This is about as stock condition as it gets! Drive with confidence knowing this Z has been gone through mechanically.

    Conclusion:

The Z cars are finally gaining the respect in the collector car community they deserve. With as many Zs that were made, it is still quite difficult to find one in such stock condition, with low miles, and in such nice condition ready to be enjoyed. This 260Z marks all the checkboxes when looking for a Datsun Z: unmodified, original color, originally solid body, original numbers matching drivetrain, low miles, not an ugly color like brown, no-crack dash, etc. While this 260Z is not a Concours perfect example, it is not priced that way either. As classic Z prices keep rising, this is a good chance to grab a low mileage super nice stock example at a reasonable price for what else is on the collector car market these days.
