Description:

1978 Datsun Z-Series

You are looking at a 1978 Datsun 280Z. HLS30468771, with a build date of 8/78. This is pretty much a complete car as far as drive train, suspension and sheet metal. The interior is about 75% complete. There are no rust issues in the areas where they are most common (frame rails, rear hatch deck, battery tray, etc). The car is in good running condition and could be driven home. There are no issues with the drive train. When I first got the car it ran, but not very well. I decided to remove the FI system since the car would not run over 3000 rpms. Instead of chasing FI issues, I replaced the FI system with a set of rebuilt round top SU’s from a 240Z. Solved all the problems because the car runs great now. I have all of the FI parts that I took off (except for the ecu and the afm) and they will go with the car if the buyer wants them. It looks like this car has never been in an accident. The car comes with extra parts including 2 front quarter panels (the ones on it now are a little banged up with small dents and some exterior rust at the bottom where water drains from the cowl down the rear of the panels (these areas where drain holes are located usually clog up over time and don’t allow the water to drain causing the outer panels to rust) and the extra ones I’m including are pretty much dent free and have no rust issues. You also get a 280Z aftermarket front fiberglass spoiler and fiberglass molded hood vents. Most of the interior trim that is there is in good shape with the normal cracks in the dash. The interior is about 75% complete. As with any 38-year old car there are some issues that need to be addressed. Listed below are the pros and cons about this car. This is not a show car, but it is a great car for someone look to restore an older Z where major issues have already been addressed.

Pros:A solid running car, eibach springs, kyb struts, no major structural rust issues, newer carpet, rebuilt SU carbs, Headlights, brake lights, taillights, side marker lights all work, wipers work, Interior from rear seats forward has been replaced with way above average parts, extra interior parts not installed are included, Keys for doors, hatch and ignition, extra set of excellent working door locks and key included, doors are solid and close with the flick of the wrist, windows roll up and down properly, the brakes were recently done. If I think of anything else I will post as needed.

Cons:Heater needs to be hooked up, turn signals don’t work, there is a crack in the windshield, rear deck of hatch interior needs finishing, needs a series 2 240z choke lever and cables for the SU’s (I will supply a bracket for the choke for mounting in the Z), tires hold air but will need to be replaced, the sunroof needs to be replaced with a newer on or a new roof skin needs to be installed (an extra roof comes with the car if you want to put a new roof skin on). If I think of anything else I will post as needed.

Shipping options:You will have 2 options on delivery of the car once paid for. The first is for you to setup transport to have it delivered to your location and the second option is to fly out (I will pick up at the airport) and drive the car home.

I feel I have described this vehicle as accurately as possible. Because the car is 38 years old, it does not come with a warranty and is being sold as is. The car does need a front-end alignment and if the car is won, I will have it aligned before the buyer picks it up at my cost. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to get you the answers in a timely manner. I will need a $300 non-refundable deposit (to know that you are serious) within 48 hours of auction end and balance in a cashiers check within seven days of auction end or cash when the car is picked up.

FYI: Keep in mind that even though the car can be driven home, there are a few extra parts that are oversized and would not fit in the Z. Fenders and spare roof come to mind.

Here are more pics of the car showing the underside of the car along with close-up pics of areas where rust would be considered an issue. I have inspected the car in more detail and found mostly surface rust. There is a small area of rust on the pass side floor board, but not enough to be considered a structural problem. The frame rails have the usual dents and dings but no rust issues from front to back. As II said before, the car is not perfect, but overall is a solid car for restoring or using as a daily driver. I want to make sure that you are making the most informed decision when biding on this car. Again, any more questions, feel free to ask
