1972 Datsun Z-Series 240Z

Well, it's time to sell my baby. I am moving to a house with much less garage space and it is time for this car to pass on to it's next guardian. This vehicle has quite a bit of history. In 1991 it appeared on the cover of "Z Car: A Legend In Its Own Time". A book by Ben Millspaugh. After appearing on the cover, it was purchased by former Texas Land Commissoner Jerry Patterson. I purchased the car from Mr. Patterson in 1999 and it underwent a total restoration in 2002. The restoration was done by Awesome Z in Houston. This car had an aftermarket sunroof added in the 80's. If you have a copy of the book this car was on the cover of, you can see it. Remember it was the 80's and those were popular then. When I restored the car in 2002 we got rid of the sunroof. We used a donor section of roof from another 240Z and the body guy did a fantastic job of welding in that piece. Here it is 14 years later and you would never be able to tell that this car had a sunroof in the past. When this car was restored there was some rust in the rocker panels and a small area on the frame rail inside the engine bay. These areas of rust were removed and replaced with steel. Much of the bottom of the car was sprayed with an undercoating. We scraped off the undercoating and found no rust in the floor pans. We then reapplied the undercoating. In 2006 this car won the highest award available to a Z Car. It won the Gold Cup at the 19th International Z Car Convention in Dallas Texas. A car must receive at least 290 of 300 points in the judged show to receive the Gold Cup. At the time, it was only the seventh car to receive the Gold Cup in 19 years. The Gold Cup trophy does go with the car. The engine is the original motor that came in this car. The body color is Toyota "Absolutely Red". The odometer is indicating 73,519 miles but I think it has rolled over once. This Z has just had an oil and filter change and transmission fluid change. Also just had the coolant system flushed. I am very serious about selling this car and because of that, I have set a realistic buy it now price. I have put a lot of money and time into this car. Many parts have been replaced with new. I have a folder with lots of receipts. Some going back to 1983. The following is just a partial list of items replaced or work done. Most of the work was done in 2002 by Awesome Z.

PROBLEMS AREAS
This car was restored in 2002 and it still looks great but every car has some problems and I will try to list all I know about. There are a few very small rock chips in the paint. The AC system works but is not very cool. It probably needs a recharge. Of course, the clock does not work. The rear hatch seal needs to be replaced or fixed. A portion of the top of the seal keeps bending over. I have included a close up of this in the pictures. I think there is a short in the bright light switch. Sometimes when you turn on the brights, the lights go out. Just click the brights again and the lights come back. The hatch does not lock. One of the dash lights in the speedometer is out making it hard to read the speedometer at night. I asked if the seals were hardened when the engine was rebuilt, and they told me no, so I have usually added a lead substitute when filling the tank. On the few times I did not add it there was no knocking or pinging. All of the problems are minor. The most important thing is this car runs fantastic.
This car looks even better in person. I encourage SERIOUS buyers to come see it. Do not send me any low ball offers. This is a quality car and it deserves a lot of interest.
