1980 Citroën Other Rare CX 25 Diesel TRD Turbo II 120 hp
Because Ebay does not recognize European VIN, listed the car as a 1980. Please note that is a 1987.
I purchased this CX TRD Turbo II from the brother of the first owner in March of 2014 in the Le Mans area of France. I was looking for something economical, omfortable and unusual to import as a daily driver. This CX checked all those boxes.
The first long time owner (1987 > 2012) was a small Citroen dealer in the South of France (near Carcassonne) and therefore the car was well taking for as shown in the pictures and videos below. When he passed away, is brother (a retired Gendarme; for real !) inherited the car. He had the car inspected for regular maintenance, ad the alternator as well as the timing belt changed, rove it a bit then parked it and never really drove it until I purchased it from him.
This rare Turbo II version features the 120 hp turbo diesel engine, hich made this car the fastest diesel sedan in the word at the time with a top speed of over 120 mph. This is not a slow car and I have surprised many drivers while merging on the highway ! Furthermore, t is quite economical.
Road (55 mph): 33.1 mpg
Highway (80 mph): 28.4 mpg
City: 22.8 mpg
This CX TRD is equipped with the VIP package, hich includes most options offered at the time such as 4 power windows, ower mirrors, pecific upholstery and door cards, are dual headlights, ear shades as well as air conditioning.
Throughout 2015, had work done to make sure the car was in tip-top shape:
- Height adjustment
- Parking brake adjustment (need to do one wheel at a time, .5 hour labor!)
- Motor & transmission mounts (all 3 ! $1,000 P&L))
- Shifter bushing (makes all the difference !) & shifter rods
- AC retrofit to 134 with new compressor
- Hydraulic and alternator belts
- Dual tone air horn repair
- Motor oil & filter
- New rear tires
- Tie rods
The car drives beautifully and feels super smooth. The faster you go, he more you feel the floating-magic-carpet aspect of the hydraulic suspension going over bumps and expansion joints like they are not even there ! The Diravi system (steering wheel centers itself back after a turn) works perfectly as does the self-leveling suspension. The car accelerates swiftly, tops straight and strong and has nice precise shifting.
A look while driving
The car was legally imported in September of 2014 under the 25 year old NHTSA exemption rule. This car is absolutely legal in the US and is sold with a valid Florida title.
This Citroen does not have any rust and I would classify it as being a very upper quality driver, r on the collectible scale of 1 to 6, 2.5. The paint appears to be all original except for the hood that shows some “cloudiness” in the finish upon close inspection and the front tip of the front right fender. It does have a little overspray on the plastic base of the passenger mirror (I had it repainted) but none at the usual places like the gaskets, eather stripping, tc.. There is a small chip in the windshield as well as a light streak across.
All the chrome trim is in excellent condition and is not pitted. Everything functions properly with the exception of the driver’s side fog light (did not bother looking into it). Also, nd typical of CX’s from this era, he center dashboard digital display is foggy and the below storage plastic doors hinges are broken.
The car has an anti-theft system and also has etching on all the windows showing the tag number from the original plates. Please note that because this is a European car, he odometer and speedometer are in km. I will leave the original French plates on the car for more authenticity.

This car is ready to go in exceptional comfort and smoothness. If you are like me and like to drive something different with good fuel economy, omfort and style then this CX should be on your list. It is an ideal daily driver for long commutes.
Although, his Citroen CX presents very well, t is still a 28 year old car, o please do not expect a new car. I am selling because we have another diesel at home and I just purchased a CX GTI overseas.
