1989 Chrysler ConquestUp for sale is a very hard to find, clean, 5-speed manual, 1989 Chrysler Conquest TSi in the highly sought-after “Fiji Blue†paint with black leather interior. Engine and turbo were both rebuilt approximately 7K miles ago.
This is also a Multiport Injection vehicle utilizing a custom intake manifold for 4 fuel injectors (in lieu of the stock 2 fuel injectors in the mixer/throttle body). The conversion to direct port true fuel injection was done approximately 3K miles ago and has been an absolute pleasure to drive since the conversion. It has a “plug n play†Megaqsuirt ECU which is hidden in a factory ECU case in the factory location and plugged directly into the factory engine harness. This enabled the vehicle to retain a factory engine harness, distributor, ignition system etc. - yet allows complete tunability for any future upgrades if you desire. You can literally plug the usb cable from the ECU into a laptop and monitor all engine parameters. Or, leave it alone and just enjoy it without any further worries. I drive this vehicle approximately 20 miles to work several times a week. It retains a factory turbo at the moment, but is significantly quicker than a stock Conquest/Starion due to the following engine mods from a complete rebuild:
Engine Rebuild info:
- Crank cut to 10 rod and main journals- .25 ACL bearings- Block decked and .020 over with wiseco pistons- New AMC Spain Marnel ported head with stainless valves- 100lb Snider springs and 274 tep cam- Timing gear set- Balance shaft elimination- ARP hardware throughout build
The MPI Conversion has four 62 lb Hollet low resistance fuel injectors in a modified Magna Intake manifold. I get constant feedback that this is how these cars should have come from the factory with this intake... it looks right at home and is magnitudes better for reliability and throttle response. This car is quick off of the line and boosts very strong. Sounds very mean with a 2.5" cat-back exhaust system.
Other good points and adds:
The interior is in excellent shape... easily a 9/10. I spent $1300 earlier this year replacing the leather on the front 2 seats to perfection. A very high-end upholstery shop did the front seats in genuine leather, even has the factory perforated leather in the right areas. Smells amazing and looks phenomenal - constant compliments on the entire car, but especially the interior.
Power seat belts work perfect.
Radio works great and sounds great - all factory still. Equalizer works great, but never use the tape deck. Sometimes the power antenna wants to stay up or stay down. I usually leave it up, but have it down to ensure a car cover can go over the vehicle.
Air Conditioning works and is COLD. I'm in Florida and would not have it any other way.
Transmission shifts great and fluids were changed out approximately 1K miles ago.
All brakes and rotors were replaced, including a complete flush of brake system this year.
This car does NOT drop fluids on the ground! No oil, water, etc.
Fuel Pump was replaced with a Walbro 255lph fuel pump went in when the MPI conversion was done.
AEM Wideband O2 sensor feeds Air Fuel Ratio data into the Megasquirt ECU system to keep everything in check. Also has an AEM gauge to the right of the steering wheel for monitoring.
Aeromotive Boost Gauge is installed in-place of the factory boost gauge in the instrument cluster for monitoring vacuum and boost levels.
Tires are in good shape and do not need replacement anytime soon.
New battery as of mid 2018.
This car is literally a daily driver - not a project! I take it to work, car shows, and continue to make minor cosmetic and preventative maintenance adjustments. The only reason for selling is that yes, I own two of these cars, along with several other makes and models. I don't want to sell, but could use the room these days!
Issues with the car:
The paint is approaching 30 yrs old. Looks great from a few feet away, but I was planning on getting all of the minor dings removed, along with a factory fresh Fiji respray. My friends say the paint looks good, but I disagree and give it maybe a 7/10 score.
Cruise control is all in place, but I never use it and it wouldn't turn on for me when I tried it once. May be a simple fix, just never got to it.
Windshield wipers work, but they are kind of slow moving. I was planning on replacing the windshield wiper motor shortly, but will leave it to the next owner.
A couple of last words to summarize: I am a serious seller, please be a serious buyer. Please don't waste our time if you have no intent on purchasing or do not have the funds immediately to do so. These Conquests and Starions in this condition are becoming increasingly difficult to find and I searched for several years to find a clean 1989 Fiji with a Manual transmission. My reserve is very reasonable and many thousands below what the last 1989 Fiji sold for on ebay. My Buy it Now is also much lower. Do not bid or buy this vehicle unless you intend to pay immediately and are positioned to have it shipped or picked up. I encourage anyone wanting to buy this vehicle to see it in-person. Not doing so is your decision and I understand that distance/logistics can make that tough. I have bought several vehicles sight unseen and followed through with payment - you will need to do the same please.
Good luck and thanks for viewing this listing!
