1965 CHRYSLER NEW YORKER TOWN SEDAN

History

The introduction of the all new 1965 Chrysler line featured ads proclaiming “The most beautiful Chrysler ever built, Agreed?” The lineup was the first effort of a new to Chrysler designer, Elwood Engel, who had defected from Ford in 1961. He had designed the elegant 1961 Lincoln lines as well. The public must have agreed, as a record 224,061 new Chryslers of all series rolled off the line at Jefferson assembly in Detroit. A total of 16,339 New Yorker Town Sedans were produced in 1965. They came with a 340 HP 413 cubic inch 4 barrel V8 engine, backed by a 727 Torqueflite transmission. Power Steering and Power drum brakes were standard.

The New Yorker Town Sedan featured in this auction is by far the nicest original 65 Chrysler I have ever owned and I have owned about 30 of them! It sold new at Griffith Chrysler in Denver, Colorado. It still wears the Griffith keyfob on the original keys! The car was in the hands of the original owners in Boulder Colorado until early 1990. A neighbor across the street from the original owners purchased the car when they retired from driving. After a 5 years of paying for a storage unit, he decided to sell. The mileage at that time was around 73,000. I purchased the car from him in June 1995 and drove it home to Indianapolis. Because of the low mileage and the beautiful condition, I have driven this car very little in the 23 years of my ownership. The current mileage is 75,959. I am sure that this is the correct original mileage. I have always garaged the car during my ownership as it has always been garaged. The mileage is exempted on the Indiana title in my name. It is registered and insured in Indiana. I have entered this car in several Car Shows. It usually takes second place to fully restored Mopars!

Condition

This Very Nice Original Chrysler New Yorker has a rust free body with Beautiful Colorado chrome and an unusually nice original interior and trunk. It starts instantly, runs and drives in nearly complete silence and is very powerful. This has always been a very nice car! This car delivers 15-18 MPG highway on 89 Octane gas. The car still has 100% of the original paint in presentable condition, with a great shine. The original emblems and trim are very nice as shown in the photos. There are a few touchups in the finish, but it is still nearly new. There is a rock chip and crack low in the windshield, almost completely hidden by the passenger side wiper. The engine compartment and trunk are in beautiful original condition. It has Power steering and brakes, Power windows, 6 way Power seat, an AM Radio with a rear speaker. The car is in excellent mechanical condition. Everything works. The clock is a bit intermittent, but runs sometimes. The Heat and Defroster system works fine as well. The factory Air Conditioning operates, but is low on R12 Refrigerant. It has nearly 20 year old, but almost no tread wear 225.75 x 14 all season radials that are still nice and round.
