1955 Chevrolet 3100

We've been saying it for years, and the day has arrived: trucks are hot collectors' items and the days of finding a nice one like this 1955 Chevrolet 3100 for pocket change are over. The good news is that this one offers all the most desirable upgrades like A/C and a leather interior, not to mention a strong-running V8, making it a great opportunity that may not come again.Chevy was actually building two distinct trucks in 1955, the new Apaches and the old-school Advance Design models, which have become one of the most highly-sought models of all. This 1955 3100 pickup falls into the latter category, offering the old pickup looks that have won fans for generations. Finished in basic black, it loses none of its old-fashioned looks, and therefore keeps all its appeal, but it's been nicely upgraded to be more contemporary from behind the wheel. Two-stage urethane paint looks great on the vintage bodywork, although a professional wet sand and polish would probably make it sparkle like a show piece. None of the steel was altered or modified, and it keeps all its original trim, too, most of which has been restored. You'll note the big grille up front looks a lot better than it might have originally (most were painted, not chromed) and the bed is certainly nicer than new with fresh oak and stainless rub strips that contrast brilliantly with the black paint. Panel fit is quite good and as I said, all the trim is in excellent shape. The leather interior neatly updates the bare-bones original look without losing its soul. The black leather bench seat is from a late-model and includes power adjustments and a center arm rest for cruising comfort. It also retains the original dash, which is now full of big, white-faced Auto Meter dials that cover all the engine's vitals. Chevy experts will spot the pod up top, which appears to be an accessory tach housing from an early '60s Impala and it's amazing how right it looks here. The steering wheel has an original look, but the smaller diameter is a little easier to work with today and the long floor shifter now manages a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission. Fully functional A/C, a tilt column, heated seats, and an AM/FM/iPod stereo system mean you don't need to sacrifice anything to enjoy this vintage hauler. The original truck packed a trusty inline-six that was reliable but slow, while this new iteration offers a 305 cubic inch V8 that is reliable but fast. Which do you prefer? With a 4-barrel Holley carburetor, Z/28 style finned valve covers, and a no-nonsense look, this is a truck built to drive. It's easy to spot the modern hardware because it's everywhere, including a modern dual reservoir master cylinder for the power 4-wheel disc brakes. It's neatly finished with good service access, but given the legendary small block's reputation, you probably won't spend much time under the hood. Fortunately, it's a great driver thanks to an A-arm front suspension, the aforementioned automatic transmission, and a 10-bolt rear end hanging on coil springs, so it rides quite well. A throaty dual exhaust system gives it a hot rod flavor and it definitely sits right, hunkered down over those big 18-inch Torque Thrust wheels and 225/50/18 Goodyear radials. So don't say you didn't have a chance to buy a great old pickup when they've finally moved out of reach. This one offers everything you'd need or want, all at a (momentarily) affordable price. Call today!
