This El Camino SS was just traded to us on a "Barn Find" Gasser! The owner had it for the last ten years. Before he purchased the car it had been repainted and a new vinyl top was installed. It also had a custom fit "pop-up" type bed cover installed that works perfectly and is sharper and much easier to use than the "snap on" covers you see on most older camino's. This cover will allow you to haul all those lawn chairs and coolers to your local car show's and cruise nites.
The exterior color on this El Camino is Mohave Gold with Black accent Super Sport Striping. The exterior body and paint on this Classic is very nice. I would give it a 8 of 10. The body is straight and the paint is smooth and has a excellent shine and it is a super color combination. The only minor fault's are a small rust bubble UNDER the vinyl roof, nd small area on the lower rocker on the drivers side (see pics), his is to be expected on a older restoration. The floor pans have had patch panels installed in needed areas (see pic) and have been undercoated to keep the underneath in good condition. The final compliment to the exteriorappearanceis the correct 15" X 7" Steel 5-Spoke Rallye wheels with jazzy white lettered tires. The black vinyl interior appears to be original and in good condition. I would give the interior a 7 of 10. It's nice, lean, omfortable, nd all original. Even the spare tire is in the correct original position.
This 1972 El Camino has a 165 horsepower 350 cubic inch engine with a turbo hydra matic transmission. The order sheet reads: Base Price $3074,00 - Freight $75.00 - Tinted Glass $44.15 - Floor Mats $7.00 -Door Edge Guards $6.50 - BlackVinylRoof $64.60 - Air Conditioner $416.45 - 165 HP 350 CU IN engine $26.90 - TurboHydra Matic $221.40 -Power Steering $118.40 - AM Radio $67.80 - Front Bumper Guard $16.15 - Super Sport Equipment $364.80 - Undercoat $35.00. Total $4,538.15. Dealer Discount $563.15. Total Price $3,975.00.
FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a very nice example of a DOCUMENTED classic car. Here is a sought after classic/muscle car with the original bill of sale and the protect-o-plate. The El Camino is certainly an ABOVE AVERAGE driver quality car. The paint and interior are well above average and the El Camino drives out great. Priced below $20,000.00 this is a fine example of a popular body style that is still affordable and fun to drive. This El Camino looks amazingcruisingdown the streets and gets plenty of compliments! REMEMBER it is a TRUE SS!
