On October 16, 958, hevrolet begins to sell a 1959 car-truck hybrid that it calls the El Camino. The El Camino was a combination sedan-pickup truck built on the Impala body, ith the same “cat’s eye” taillights and dramatic rear fins. It was, ds trilled, the most beautiful thing that ever shouldered a load!” “It rides and handles like a convertible,” Chevy said, yet hauls and hustles like the workingest thing on wheels.” The El Camino was discontinued after just two years in 1960. In 1964, he company introduced a new version, his one built on the brawnier Chevelle platform.

1964 marked the return of the El Camino, hich had gone on hiatus after the 1960 model year. The new second-generation El Camino models were smaller than the original and based on the Chevelle platform.
