1958 Chevrolet Big Window Short Bed Stepside Restomod Pickup Truck


For sale is a drop dead beautiful 1958 Chevrolet 3100 Big Window Stepside Pickup, finished in Lazer Blue and Silver Ice Metalic. Interior is done in Silver / Grey with newly upholstered power bucket seats and center console with cup holders from a 1991 Chevy Silverado. This pickup is a head turner for sure and fun to drive! This was a full frame off restoration. A new big-window, side windows, and windshield were installed. Cab, all body parts, and frame were sandblasted; then primed, painted, and undercoated. The bed was sourced from the same 1991 Silverado and was cut down to fit and match the 1958 body lines. Gas tank filler on cab was welded shut and new gas tank located under bed. The chrome bumpers, grille, and stainless-steel pieces are in excellent condition throughout. Vintage Chevy wheels were sourced and fitted with Goodyear tires. It sports an original straight axle front end with added CPP Sway Bar and power steering.

The interior is eye-catching! Custom made door panels and headliner, 2 tone body-colored dash, new digital gauges & new chrome knobs / switches, retro non working radio face, Speedway 20 circuit custom wiring harness, tilt-steering column with leather wrapped Chevy steering wheel, and new grey carpeting throughout to include back of cab. Black floor mats. Specialty electric windows and Vintage A/C were added.

Under the hood is a fully restored and detailed engine compartment with a 350 cubic inch motor and T-5 manual 5 speed transmission from a 1994 S-10 truck. Features include a new 4-barrel Edelbrock Quadrajet carburator with a working accellerator activated choke & ethanol resistant accelerator pum, new timing chain, gears & crankshaft gasket and seal, new chrome oil pan and gasket, new power steering conversion with, brake booster, front disc brake conversion, new power steering gear box with Heidt's adjustable valve, new water pump, radiator, electric fan with bypass switch, hoses, battery, aluminum fold down battery box, cables, etc. A new rear-frame mounted 16-gallon fuel tank was installed with new fuel pump & sender, new brakes (front & rear) w/ new wheel cylinders, new rear axle bearings & seals, new front & rear shock absorbers.
This project was a 16 year restoration inspired by Dennis Carpenter's 1956 Panel Truck as seen in Classic Truck Magazine Vol.20, No.10. (1097-7988)

Body/Paint: The cab and front end are all original steel. The body and frame were stripped to bare metal, primed, and painted as aforementioned. The body is very straight. The complete bed is all original from 1991 with no signs of past damage. The interior is all aluminum and topped with a hydraulic lifted fiberglass cover. New hood hinges are installed on original ’58 hood. All new wheel liners. Color is PPG Laser Blue over PPG Silver Ice Metalic.

Electrical: New Speedway wiring harness and Dakota Digital dash showing 3200 miles since rebuild. The 62 year total milage is unknown. Electric fan relay with thermostat, engine runs cool. Working dome light, controlled by dash switch. Vintage style break and reverse lights. New upper brake light. New 150-amp chrome alternator. New battery and cables.

Interior: Very nice and clean looking interior. 1991 Chevrolet Silverado bucket front seats; both of which are power operated.Tilt steerting with leather wrapped wheel. Seat belts were added. Both door and window felts and seals replaced. New insulation, carpets, and mats. Vintage A/C. Specialty Power Windows.

Exterior: All new weatherstripping. Fiberglass bed and bed cover with gas shocks, and twist lock. Under bed fuel tank with fuel fill inside bed. New straps and tailgate wires. New sun visor over top of windshield. Side sare straight and paint is near perfect. (see photos)

Drive Train: Total rebuild on a Chevy 350 with a T-5 manual transmission; now showing 3200 miles. Engine maintains a reliable oil pressure range of 30 to 40 psi. Dress up kit with Edelbrock chrome head, carburator, valve covers and breather, Edelbrock chrome air filte, and fuel pump, Chrome plated alternator. Chrome plated air conditioning compressor. Stainless wrapped hoses. Engine compartment is very nice. Simple and clean pulley system. New radiator with thermostat controlled electric puller fan, runs cool. New chrome plated oil pan. New u-joints and driveshaft yoke.
Exhaust: Headers attach to full 3" piping and run through 3" Knock off Flowmaster mufflers and terminate at chrome plated side exhaust outlets made by Pypes. She will be noticed when coming done the highway.
Brakes: Front Power Disc brakes. Drums rear. All new brake lines.
Wheels & Tires: Vintage Chevy wheels were sourced and fitted with new M+S P265/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler HP tires.
Suspension: This vehicle drives and rides like a 1958 truck should. The body is very light and the suspension is stiff. If one wanted it to feel more car like; it would need lighter suspension OR the owner could load the bed with 5 - 6 hundred pounds of ballast weight.

I am not the original builder and furnish information as was given to me. I have noticed that the passenger window could stand to be adjusted. There is a paint chip in the passenger door step that occured during adjustments. See picture. Electric wipers are new but not presently working. The glove box is not used as the vintage A/C system utilizes that space. A console was added to replace it. The suspension is stiff resulting in a rattle on bumps and potholes. The truck would make an excellent vehicle for daily driving or could be a garage and show queen. Highway speeds are easily attained with the 5 speed transmission. A cruise control valve is present under the hood but not yet hooked up to the carb.
