A benchmark year for any Chevelle enthusiast has to be 1970. The Chevelle SS396 was only offered the first part of the year before making way for the larger 454ci V8. The styling of the 1970 edition included stronger body accents, an optional cowl induction domed hood with lock down pins & dual racing stripes over the hood and trunk lid, painted headlight surrounds and blacked out grill accents, wheel well lip moldings, smaller square taillights located within the chrome bumper along with a black insert panel, 14" 5-spoke chrome wheels, and SS emblems front & rear. This bold and very aggressive Chevelle provoked fear in the hearts of potential race candidates at every stoplight!
This restored, Kansas City, MO built 1970 Chevelle SS396 Convertible comes finished in factory code correct 14- Cortez Silver with Black hood & deck lid stripes over 756- Black vinyl bucket seat interior with matching Black convertible top. Factory options include full numbers matching L34 396ci/350 horsepower Turbo-Jet V8 & M20 4-speed manual transmission, Super Sport package equipment, F41 special performance suspension, JL2 vacuum power disc brakes, power steering, Rally gauges with dash tachometer & electric clock, original 3.31 Posi-Traction 12-bolt rear end (CCF), SS rally wheels with Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport F70-14, center console, courtesy lights & glove box light, wheel house moldings, power folding top, and cushion rim sport steering wheel. The only update from stock is a newer Custom Autosound AM/FM/AUX radio using the original windshield antenna. The factory AM radio is included with the sale.
The 100% number's matching engine, transmission, and rear end are nicely detailed from top to bottom! It runs superbly! It tracks perfectly straight, runs cool, brakes confidently, and all features are in strong working order with exception to the original dash clock! The body & chassis remain solid after a complete cosmetic restoration completed September 2019 by Walnut Park Auto Body. Any rust in the body was properly removed before new paint was expertly applied in a base coat/clear coat fashion so the hood & deck stripes are buried nicely and feel super smooth to the touch! A new black vinyl top was fitted to a restored top frame along with all new weather stripping. Inside, it was treated to a new dash pad, radio speakers, door panels, seating upholstery, and fresh carpet underneath it all!
