A previous owner acquired this vehicle from Detroit and figured it deserved a big upgrade; a Corvette LT1 5.7L Tuned Port Injection V-8 making 300 horsepower!Made during the first week of December 1963 (code 12A) at General Motors’ Norwood, Ohio factory (VIN code N), this Chevy II Nova 400 left the line with the following options: tinted windshield (W2), padded dash (C5), seat belts (V) and Z01/Z13 Comfort and Convenience package (F). This package included reverse lights, inside day/night mirror, sideview mirror, two-speed windshield wiper and washers and glove box light.Finished in a Silver Blue paint that is almost identical to the factory shade available in 1964, the car’s paint, trim and badging are in overall excellent condition, and the exterior had a respray during the summer of 2019. This newly created compact car era generally had a traditional three-box look with clean lines on a smaller scale than the Big Three’s full-size offerings. Following the tradition set by Buick’s Century in 1936, it wasn’t long before bigger and bigger engines found their way into the bantamweight Chevy IIs, which usually tipped the scales under 2,500 pounds. This Chevy IIs bodywork is straight, the engine bay is extremely tidy and its Super Start battery appears new. Out back the car’s trunk is in very good condition and has a full-sized spare tire, wheel and a jack. The car’s chrome bumpers are in overall very good condition. This car rolls on Goodyear Eagle GT II tires, size P215/70R14 at every corner. Each tire is mounted to a factory Rallye wheel. The tires have good tread depth and the turbine-style, vented wheels are all in very good order.Under that counterbalanced hood is a modern heart, a LT1 5.7L V-8 from a 1992-1996 Chevrolet Corvette and with Tuned Port fuel injection. The engine gleams in its bay with chrome valve covers, intake runners, alternator and other parts. The motor breathes via true dual exhausts and is backed by a three-speed automatic transmission. Note the absence of any power or convenience accessories – this car is a racer made up to look mostly vanilla from the outside.Inside, the black vinyl bucket front seats and rear bench look great. The complementing carpet and headliner are in a similar condition. A two-spoke steering wheel with metal horn ring faces the driver and looks the part while the padded dashboard and interior door panels echo the rest of the interior’s theme but the horn is inoperable. A chromed B&M floor-mounted shifter resides between the front buckets. A later model AM/FM stereo with cassette deck completes the interior.Documentation include the original owner’s manual and a True GM Code Reader Book, 1982-1995 except Cadillac.Competition to this Chevy II in 1964 included Buick’s Special/Skylark, Dodge’s Dart, Ford’s Falcon, Mercury’s Comet, Oldsmobile’s F-85, Plymouth’s Valiant and Pontiac’s Tempest. This car has a straight body with a fresh repaint, crisp interior and a ‘slight’ upgrade under the hood make this classic Chevy special. The addition of the Rallye Wheels offer a hint of what is under the hood for eagle-eyed enthusiasts, but the rest of the exterior is left stock. The LT1 engine makes more than 100 horsepower and over 50 more pounds-feet of torque than the 283 V-8 originally offered in ‘64 Novas. More horsepower in this car’s little frame is a lot of fun...and the docile looks make the surprise of the extra power even more fun! These Chevy II Novas continue to rise in collectability, and we love the stance on this one.Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today and check out this sleeper X-body for yourself before someone else takes it home!
