HISTORY

This vehicle is 1964 Riverside Red Corvette Sport Coupe. It has a good “driver quality” body and exterior. It presents very nicely when clean and polished. Straight frame and body. It has a clean black interior with good seats and instruments and dash. I would give the exterior and interior a good B+. It came with a Muncie 4 Speed Manual Transmission. It has a good set of “Knock-Off” Wheels. All new trailing arms and bearings. The odometer reads 55,620 miles. As it sits it no longer has a 1964 engine of any kind nor many of the original 1964 engine compartment components. CLEAR TITLE.

I bought this car knowing it needed some work. The replacement GM small block engine in it was shot. The entire cooling system really needed replacing.I also found out there was damage to the two fiberglass inner fender wells - right where the hood hinges attach to the inner fenders. The Engine Compartment needed most of the work and was the main focus of my project.

PROJECT

I started the project by gutting the engine compartment of anything that was junk so I could start over with good new parts.I pulled out the entire engine and exhaust system back to the tail pipes.Having no original 1964 engine, I decided to install a brand new GM “crate” small block engine. This Corvette would never be a show car, so I decided to go with a modern, reliable engine.

I purchase a BRAND NEW Chevrolet Vortec Head 350 HO 19210007 (350 HP) small block V-8 engine. Here is a summary of the specs on this engine taken from the engine manual:

This complete engine was assembled using brand new, premium quality components. The intake and exhaust ports are very similar to the 1992-1995 Corvette 350 LT1 heads. These cylinder heads have the 1996-1998 Vortec style 8 bolt intake manifold mounting pattern.

350 HO Engine Specifications:

Displacement: 350 cubic inches

Bore x Stroke: 4.00 inch x 3.48 inch

Compression 9.1:1

Block: Cast iron, four-bolt intermediate mains

Cylinder Head: Production Vortec Cast Iron, 23º valve angle

Pistons: Cast aluminum

Camshaft: Hydraulic flat tappet

Valve Diameter (Intake/Exhaust): 1.94”/1.50”

Lift: .435” intake, .460” exhaust

Fuel: Premium unleaded - 92 (R+M/2)

Maximum Engine Speed: 5700 RPM

REPAIR WORK

Fiberglass Inner Fenders:I had planned to replace both of the cracked inner engine compartment fenders. The right one was the worst which I have begun cutting away. The left inner fender is structurally sound, but the previous repair is obvious.I was going to replace the left side while I did the right just to properly correct the damage.I have purchased two new fiberglass inner fenders (see PHOTO # 14) plus NEW metal reinforcement brackets for the hood hinge area.

Engine Compartment: I have posted five photos in this auction from all angles showing you the engine compartment as it is now.At this point, pretty much everything has been pulled out of the engine compartment. At this point in the project I was going to clean up the visible frame members and suspension and steering components, etc.Clean all the grease and oil and surface rust and shoot a fresh coat of paint. It would take some elbow grease, but it’s mostly all cosmetic, not structural work. After everything was cleaned up, I was going to install the Steeroids Rack & Pinion Power Steering Kit.This is where the project stopped for me.

1967 AIR SCOOP HOOD MODIFICATION

The choice of the Vortec Head GM Crate engine resulted in a GM Small Block engine that is taller than the original Corvette 327 engine. The Vortec head design requires a different, taller intake manifold than the standard head small block engine. With the carburetor and air cleaner, the entire engine assembly will not fit under the original stock 1964 hood.So I purchased a replica 1967 air scoop hood. The air scoop design allows for additional room for the Vortec head engine.I purchased the necessary parts for the L88 carburetor induction system that I was going to try to incorporate as part of the project.Obviously, I never got that far.

There are many, many NEW SMALL PARTS - brackets, hardware, light bulbs, small replacement parts, gaskets, o-rings, etc - all labeled in plastic bags.I've probably forgotten to list other smaller parts. Despite all my attempts to acquire all the needed parts, I am sure there are a few things I have forgotten to buy.But it shouldn’t be much.

So virtually all the main parts have been purchased and all are brand new. With my back getting worse, I can no longer work on this project. For someone who is comfortable with automotive work, this could turn out to be a very nice car.

TOOLS, JACKS, JACK STANDS, WHEEL DOLLIES, ENGINE STAND, ETC.

Included in this auction is a 1,000 pound capacity gantry chain hoist, an engine stand, a floor jack, four metal wheel dollies, four jack stands, two portable shop spot lights, a Knock-Off Wheel Tool and Lead Hammer, and probably some other shop equipment.

REFERENCES

Included in this auction are all of my references:I have copies of the 1964 Corvette Manuals as well as many, many books and literature on the C2 Corvette.I also have a small collection of maintenance “how-to” DVDs on various subjects

NOTE to POTENTIAL BUYERS:I am giving up on this project because of health reasons.I can no longer do automotive work because of major back injuries. So I can not make arrangements for shipping the car, the new engine, parts and shop equipment.
