Show Quality Inside, Outside and Underneath

Imagine if you can a vehicle so stunning that it draws a crowd when it rolls up on the sand at Malibu Beach or parked "up front" in the Valet Circle at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Sunset Boulevard. This is the kind of unique car that is nearly impossible to walk or drive by without squeezing off a double take or three. The owner's unique personality and style are all wound into this vision of Old Classic Beauty, Modern, Luxurious Road Car, and Beach Cruiser/SUV. Oh, and HOT ROD!

It is nearly impossible to describe this one-off Custom Modified Modern Show Car Conversion. Perfection is a naughty word to throw around when it comes to automotive anything. This vehicle exudes perfection; in Design, in Workmanship, Appearance, Performance, Handling and Ride Quality. Perfection Abounds in this 56 Two-Door Classic Nomad Wagon. You can See it, Feel it, Hear it and Smell it.

I am helping a good friend sell this gorgeous one-off Nomad. The owner is the consummate auto mechanic, having started life as an Air Force mechanic and over 30 years experience restoring, building and working on all kinds of automobiles. Paul has restored everything from Chevy's to Porsches.

The car runs and drives perfectly and has been maintained and upgraded continuously since it was restored in 1997 - 2000 time-frame and then upgraded again over the last ten years.

Just as a matter of reference, I have been judging cars at all types of levels including numerous concour events annually in Southern CA for over 30 years and have extensive experience in restoration of many marques. I am extremely picky and probably grade more on the lower side when evaluating vehicles. I rate this car simply as #1 Condition. It is ready to show at any level or venue.

This car was purchased in good shape, with a solid Southern CA body with no rust in 1997 from an owner who we think bought it new. We have registration going back to 1966 (see pics). The car lived its life in dry Riverside area, just outside of Los Angeles. The car was a solid running example that was a perfect candidate for a full restoration using modern components. The car was originally built at the Los Angeles Plant.

Over three years of hard work went into this project built by JJ Restorations in Costa Mesa, CA. The plan was to build a 56 Chevy Two Door Nomad Wagon that was a practical street machine with all the modern goodies for LA driving, with enough power to plant the driver right into the seat. Except for the lowered modern suspension and gorgeous two-tone paint accent this 56 looks just as it did the day it rolled off the showroom floor.

BODY & PAINT

The body was completely bead blasted to bare metal. All glass was removed and replaced with new glass. Glass channels were cleaned of all old glue and old rubber and everything was prepped for painting with the glass out. New Rubber went in to the window channels as well as the entire car. All body rubber and window felt was replaced.

The body work and paint was done by Harbor Body & Paint in Costa Mesa around 2000. The body panel fit and paint is absolutely stunning and a testament to the leisurely life it has had since restoration. The car sees very little sunlight and has spent its entire restored life in the garage. The paint looks absolutely fresh. It is smooth and mirror-like in its presentation from any distance. I have taken super close up pictures that detail just how incredible the finish is on this car. The stainless trim is all original to the car and was polished to perfection. Chrome is meticulous. I would call the body and paint, stainless and chrome all in #1 condition.

The interior coachwork so fittingly wraps around your body, you feel as though you slipped into the cockpit of a brand new Mercedes S Class. The interior appointment is nearly flawless, from paint finish to carpet and headliner installation. The Vintage Air was made to work with these Tri-5 under-dash configurations and looks like it was OEM from the factory. All Interior rebuilding and custom upholstery was performed by Chepe. Chepe works almost exclusively for Bill Burton Classic in Stanton, CA & Brian Dickey Hot Rods in San Clemente, CA and does some of the nicest interiors I have ever seen. The sound system rocks and has an external hookup for external media players.

The Undercarriage looks as beautiful as the exterior, everything is detailed and ready to show. The combination of Isolator Cushioning Mounts between the frame and the body, brand new Tubular A-Frames up front with brand new spring bushings and all suspension bushings replaced make for a ride that is solid yet luxurious. The money was spent to upgrade the suspension to that of a modern luxury vehicle; and it worked!!

Most hardcore automotive fans of Muscle or Rodding will admit that the wheel and tire combo make it or break it when examining the overall look of a really cool car. With that in mind, American Racing Torq Thrust 2 Wheels and a set of brand new BF Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 Tires were chosen to fill the wheel-wells and give that mean road race appearance.

Driving a Performance Hot Rod like this one starts with a quick turn of the key which lights up the sound of a gentle thunder emanating from below. The Fuel Injected ZZ 383 Small Block comes alive without the slightest hesitation. Placing it in gear finds a quick snap into gear with the astonishing brand new 700R Automatic Transmission and just the right amount of rumble from the custom exhaust as you accelerate from stopped. Not too loud, not too quiet, perfection. How did they do this??

Driving the car is best described as a sensual experience. Tell it to go FAST and it thunders at the slightest touch to the accelerator. Roll the seat back and settle in to the open road with the ride quality of a Mercedes Benz S Class. This is a Motorcar that can do almost anything you want it to do. Throw your surfboard in the back or throw the kids in your 1956 "Grand Touring" Wagon and drive to the Grand Canyon on an adventure vacation. Who needs an SUV when you have this one-of-a-kind rig. Remember, this is a modern car from suspension to drive-train to modern driving conveniences such as power steering, power disc-brakes, modern stereo and CD player and air conditioning. And, IT'S A HOT ROD TOO. This beauty has it all.

Whether you are donning a pair of Board Shorts or a Tuxedo, you will always feel just right in this once in a life-time Dream Machine.

This build produced $85K-$100K in receipts and over a thousand man hours of work and we have two full notebooks of those receipts to back it up (see pictures). Add another $20K or a decent complete donor and you got your estimate to make one yourself. Oh, don't forget your time, energy and patience quotient. This is the way to purchase a fine specimen of automobilia extraordinaire. Let someone else do all the work.

I cannot stress to any potential buyer how important it is to come and look at this amazing automobile if you are a serious buyer. To see it is to experience it. We will be happy to take you for a spin so you can feel it, hear it and experience the artistry that is this stunning Chevy Nomad Resto-Mod Creation.
