Description:

1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

1972 Chevelle SS convertible, amily owned, early original.

350 CI, utomatic. Motor block was damaged and replaced several years ago, nd the entire car is mechanically very sound. It does not smoke at all, nd uses no oil. 202 heads were put on when the block was replaced, nd I think the block was a 4-bolt main, ut I can’t remember that for sure. Everything else under the hood is original. The rear transmission seal needs replaced, ut it is a very slow leak…just enough to stain the floor a little during long storage. The exhaust system consists of the stock manifolds and drop-down tubing, nd is muffled by a single glass-pack. There are no other exhaust pipes on it. If it sits for more than a few days, ne needs to prime the carb with a little gas to get it to start.

This vehicle was purchased new by my father, nd was kept by my mother until recently. She sold it to my son, ot it back, hen sold it to my daughter, nd I acquired it from her. It was always garage kept by my mother and son, nd I’ve kept it in my garage for both the duration of my daughter’s ownership and my ownership. I’ve decided that with my approaching retirement and numerous home repair projects underway that I will likely never get it restored, nd none in my family with the means to buy it have an interest, nd so I am letting it go.

The canvas on the top needs replaced, nd a new canvas comes with the car. The front seats were reupholstered years ago, nd could use it again, nd there is some upholstery coming loose at the front, ottom of the door panels, nd some upholstery damage in the rear windows areas.

I have had it assessed by a professional body man and was told for a complete body restoration it should have both rear quarter-panels and the trunk pan replaced. Everything else is in good shape, ncluding the doors and door seams. It does need new paint. It was repainted several years ago and was painted the original color then, hich is the gold you see in the pictures.

It has the original 8-track/AM radio, ut I don’t know if it works. I have no 8-track cassettes. The radio did work the last time that I used it, nd it has very poor audio quality, ut probably about the same as when it was new. The original rear speakers are removed, ut I have them. I once had planned to replace them with better quality speakers, ut never did.

It has the gauge package as seen in the photo, nd they all work, xcept sometimes the temp gauge starts bouncing erratically. My daughter purchased a new canvas for the top, hich was never installed, nd I’ve purchased and installed new hydraulic cylinders for the top, ear air shocks, nd new tires. The tires probably have less than a hundred miles on them. This vehicle needs only a little tlc to be returned to its original glory. I also have new ball joints, uel pump, nd a convertible top switch with wiring harness, hich all go with the car. The switch is broken, nd I doubt if I’ll have time to replace it.

I recommend that you view this car before bidding. I will add any photos that are requested. I believe that I have covered all issues, ut it is 43 years old. I have made photos of every flaw that I am aware of, nd I didn’t clean it or doctor anything up. I drove it out of the garage and took pictures of it as-is. The carpet is actually in very good shape, nd so I’m sure it has been replaced, ut is in dire need of a vacuum job. Pick-up and/or shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. It drives well, nd I myself would trust it for long trips, ut there again the age must be considered.

I had a question about the condition underneath, nd I just took a couple of pictures of the only rust I could find. These pictures show a slight amount of rust on the seams of the front floor pans. The rust has caused the undercoating to peel off at the seam, ut appears to me to be surface only, nd is definitely not through. I am not a body professional, ut I could see no other signs of rust anywhere. I will only be able to add one photo, nd will add the one showing the worst, hich is the driver side. (24 photo limit) I can provide specific photos to any subsequent inquiries, nd if the current winning bid owner requests, hen I will take it somewhere that has a lift and get better photos.I would also like to offer delivery to central Indiana at the end of January (weather permitting) for only the cost of a trailer rental. I am going there anyway to visit family.

While scrounging around to find the new fuel pump for this car, came across a new seat belt that I purchased, nd that reminded me that the driver's buckle is broken. The new seat belt goes with the car, f course. At an interested bidder's request, 've determined it is a 12-bolt rear end. I have the trim tag info if anyone wants it, nd I also have photos available of the transmission pan. I'm in the process of rounding up old photos.
