Ipurchasedthe car from a charity last year. The charity said the miles were actual, but I wasskeptical. (see photo from donation co.) So today, 6/15/19, I got busy and I was able to find a phone number. Thanks Google!
I just had a wonderful conversation with the previous now 92 y/o owner (Don)verifying the miles and the car's history. At first he was shocked I found him. He was reluctant to talk to me, but I persisted and told him what a neat car it was and I just wanted some history on it. He warmed up after a bit and wetalkedfor nearly a half hour. He told me he donated the carbecause he didn't want any problems with whoever bought it. He said the last car he sold was a 1946 Chevy and after a few weeks they guy complained about thecarburetor stumbling when he drove it up a hill so I gave him money for a newcarburetor.
He recently stopped driving due to poor eyesight. His main driver had been a 1976 Olds Cutlass which is why this car sat in the garage most of the time. The Chevelle wasactuallyhis sister's car at first, but sheseldom drove and when she needed to go somewhere he drove her in the Cutlass most of the timeespecially after herhealth started to fail.
After shepassed he called this his "show car". He would drive it onspecial occasions and to local car events. He had all the most recent mechanical work done bythe same local shop that he'd been going to for years. My guess is itprobably didn't need a new motor, he was just fixing it up as his show car. I wasn't about to question his motives. He did mention he was going to have the seat fixed next, but when he stopped driving he saw an ad on TV and decided to donate the car.
I asked him if he had saved any of the paperwork for the car. He said "why would I save anypaperwork for that car?" He said he had "no use for that paperwork", "I threw it all away." He did say the car was NEVER in any accidents and thatspeedometer NEVER turned overseveral times during our conversation. I told him I gave the car a gooddetail and I'd be happy to send him somepictures. He said he didn't need any pictures. I went on to thank him for taking suchgood care of his car and how much I appreciated his talking to me today.
