Back in the mid-1970's I was running the detail shop at Chuck Olsen Chevrolet in Shoreline, Washington just north of Seattle. After prepping hundreds of new Chevys for showroom delivery, my wife and I decided to take the plunge and purchase a new truck for ourselves.Being all of 20 years old, we knew nothing of the process and were quickly over our heads dealing with the finance manager.Instead of taking on what seemed like a massive $3,800 vehicle loan, we decided college tuition would be a better investment, so that fall I quit the job and became a full-time college student.

While I've never regretted getting a degree, that missed opportunity for a new pickup still grates a bit all these decades later.I've owned many since and this '80 Custom Deluxe 4x4 is about as close as any could come to ever duplicating what might have been in my rented carport all those years ago.

Take a good look at the posted photos (all were taken on Saturday, November 10).It's obvious the attentiveness and care given by past owners has really paid off! With just a casual glance you might think this is just another ol' truck. But look a little closer and you'll realize what a find this thing really is!The first hint comes when checking for rust. The usual spots at the bottom of the doors and around the wheel wells have none! There is a long-ago patch at the bottom of the right front fender, but hardly noticeable. For those not familiar with the Pacific Northwest, specifically Western Washington, we get our share of misty rain, but hardly ever any snow.At the first sign of a falling flake everyone panics and stays home.School is cancelled and business grinds to a halt from "sick" workers.Truth is, our winter roads are rarely salted, so you'll see very few vehicles here with any serious rust problems!Climb over, under and around this rig - I know you'll come up smiling!I have found some small corrosion in the passenger inner fender liner; likely caused by a battery up in the engine compartment leaking acid sometime in the distant past.

When you open the hood, you're in for a pleasant surprise. This rig still has it's original, clean, great-running 350 V-8 motor. The second you fire it up, you'll know it was built to last!I love the deep burble this strong engine makes through the easy-breathing real dual exhaust.Almost sounds like a hot rod!I had my shop tech look over the mechanicals and, because new shock absorbers had recently been done front and back, all that was needed were fresh sparkplugs and an oil change. The automatic transmission is very strong with the data plate showing there are standard gears in the rear pumpkin. Here's how the VIN breaks down:

C - Chevrolet Production

K -Conventional Cab, 4x4

M - 350 CID (5.7 Liter) V-8; 4 BBL Carb

2 - Three-quarter Ton Capacity

4 -Pickup body Type

A -1980 Model Year Designation

F -Flint, Michigan Assembly Plant

The data plate indicates the truck was delivered to the southwest after its scheduled production date where it was sold Sept. 15, 1980 at Kess Chevrolet in Pecos, Texas. The original owner was an oil industry testing company headquartered in Odessa. Within a few years the rig was sold to an employee you brought it here to the Seattle area and owned it for the next thirty years. We received the original factory owner's manual, warranty information and maintenance schedule pamphelets along with the Warn winch owner's manual. I was told the heavy-duty front bumper and winch system were dealer installed prior to initial delivery.

Up in the cab you'll find full factory instrumentation in the dash including oil-water-amp gauges.Look at the pictures of the bench seat. It's in great shape on both the base and backrest as shown.Same goes for the gold carpet, it's in new condition as well. There are no cracks, chips or dings in the windshield. About the only things the next caretaker will want to do is have the A/C system looked over. With our mild climate, it's likely not been used in years and, along with the heater fan, doesn't switch on. Same goes for the factory AM radio. The Warn winch system is complete and includes the remote control switch cable stowed in a pouch behind the driver's seat.It will need at least a fresh auxillary battery and new isolator to become functional again.

Because we don't really get any snow here in the Puget Sound lowlands, I haven't tested the rig's 4x4 capabilities in slippery conditions. After adjusting the manual locking hubs and switching into four-high, the system seems to be operating properly.

I really like the heavy-duty 16.5-inch wheels with rare original Chevy hubcaps; all four are straight and true and give the truck an added sporty appearance. They're wrapped with excellent BF Goodrich All-Terrain A/T tires having at least 95 percent remaining tread all around.Outside, I know you'll also be impressed by the classic "burnt orange" metallic paint.I think it is still wearing the original coat that the truck rolled off the Flint assembly line with. Not perfect, but still very presentable. The bed has been well-sealed with quality roll-on bedliner material and has no rusted-out corners or holes as often found in these vintage trucks.

We ship vehicles regularly and I'd suggest that you get bids from the transporters listed here on the Ebay site by pressing the "Shipping" tab found above this description section.I do have a local company many of our buyers have used for delivery all over the country and I'd be happy to get a COD bid from them after the auction is completed. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER.

On Nov-12-18 at 21:38:51 PST, seller added the following information:

Note to Bidders: This afternoon (after the above description was posted) my mechanic was doing his regular seller prep on the truck, getting it ready for delivery after the auction ends. He removed the covers to do a valve adjustment and we discovered this excellent motor appears to be freshly rebuilt. The rocker arms and pushrods are all new. Both heads are spotless with new valve springs and all the valve stems appear to have absolutely NO wear. The valve cover gaskets are also fresh. Though we can't see the head surfaces or pistons, I'm willing to bet by the way this truck runs, everything on the lower end was done as well. Finally, the stock four-barrel carburetor looks freshly tanked and rebuilt. A new K&N oil filter was used for the most recent oil change. Quality all the way!
