Responding to lifting of GM's ban on engines larger than 400 cubic inches, Chevrolet dropped in a 454 c.i. V8 into its Chevelle SS. This SS454 is equipped with its original, rebuilt LS-5 engine. The factory rated this powerplant at 360HP @ 5400rpm & 500lb-ft. @ 3200rpm. The engine displays the correct factory stampings T0512CRQ / 10R253463. The cylinder heads also are original. These engine pad stampings of CRQ and the V.I.N. sequence confirms this to be an original 454 powered 1970 Chevelle SS. This example features an updated H.E.I. ignition system and a GM 4bbl. intake & Holley 4bbl. carburetor. Exhaust gases are expelled through Hooker Headers out the custom exhaust system / resonators / chrome GM tips. The engine compartment is fully detailed and clean. Note the assembly detail tags and correct hose clamps are in place as is the paint/trim tag confirming this to have always been an Astro Blue / Blue Interior car. The cooling system has been updated with a high capacity aluminum radiator. Also, the air conditioning has been fully serviced inside & out. It blows cold and hard through the vents. Open the door to 1970. The interior is completely restored. The dash, door panels, headliner, and upholstery show as new. The soft weatherstrip components have also been replaced throughout this car. Rounds gauges are an exclusive SS feature. This car showcases the factory clock, speedometer, and fuel gauge along with the 3-spoke steering wheel, tilt steering column, and factory Delco AM/FM radio. The bucket and rear seat is excellent, accompanied by new seat belts and a factory center console. This SS features the optional ZL2 hood & functional hood pins. When this feature was selected, the base SS domed hood was replaced with this special cowl induction hood with a vacuum controlled flapper that opens when the engine is under throttle. Another part of the ZL2 option was the D88 hood and deck stripes The black rear bumper pad is another SS exclusive feature. The exhaust system features the correct resonators and chromed exhaust tips. It sounds excellent. The 1970 SS Chevelle's grille featured blacked-out bars with the SS emblem. The front and rear bumpers are new. Besides the 454 engine, another distinguishing feature of the SS454 package is this specific badging. Both the 396SS and 454SS cars were equipped with these 14-Inch Super Sport wheels. The tires are radials, sized at 225/70R14s. The body shows laser straight original panels. This is a beautiful collector quality Chevelle. The trunk is clean and detailed, complete with the correct spare and jacking equipment. The cowl induction system is fully functional. The new GM licensed Chevelle SS454 hat, model, and hot wheels are included. The undercarriage features SS exclusive options such as the boxed trailing arms.
