History:
My Father-in-Law, John Stewart, purchased this '94 Corvette approximately 12 years ago through Ebay at a cost of $25,000. The car was originally purchased by a young man named Monty Jones in Kentucky. During his ownership Monty sent the car to Doug Rippie Motorsports in Minnesota to install one of their "DRM450" 450HP 383ci stroker engines and supporting modifications. Later, a 100hp NOS nitrous system was added to the car. On top of the original $45,644 sticker price Monty spent an additional $20,000 in performance upgrades and labor! The car was eventually sold to another man, Roger Vincent, who basically just maintained and drove the car for pleasure. When he was ready to move on my FIL, John, purchased the car from him through Ebay. For 8 years my FIL drove and meticulously maintained the car. He says that in all those years he never tried the nitrous system because the car was already all that he could handle. (The bottle gauge shows that it is still nearly full but after all of these years it should probably be evacuated and refilled with fresh nitrous.) 4 years ago my FIL fell into a series of major health complications that prohibited him from driving this or any car at all. Unfortunately, when these complications began the car was parked outdoors in his driveway and he never got around to putting it in his garage for proper storage. Because of this the outer condition of the car has suffered a bit. Earlier this year my FIL asked me if I could get the car running again, clean it up and get it sold for him. Upon receiving the car I installed a new battery and got it running but it is not yet drivable as a good once-over should be performed to make sure everything is in good working order and the car needs new tires as the existing ones are dried-out from sitting.
The Good:
This is an excellent opportunity for a performance enthusiast to purchase a killer mild project Corvette for entry-level money. The car is very solid. The interior is very presentable. The leather seats are a bit dry but should respond very well to leather conditioner. There is a new battery and the engine fires and sounds very healthy although it does not want to slow idle very well because of the old gasoline. With some basic maintenance, replacements and a thorough cleaning and detailing it will present very well. My FIL says that the car is amazingly fun and powerful to drive and thanks to the tuned computer it idles smooth and handles daily situations as well as a completely stock Corvette. Up until the point he stopped driving he says that everything was functional. I have tried all of the various switches and everything does seem to work including both flip-up headlights. As stated above, the car includes the $2500 optional color matched hard top which will need to be retrieved from my FIL's garage.
The Bad:
As stated, this car has (unfortunately) sat outdoors for the past 4 years. There are a couple of spots (see photos) where the paint clear coat has started to peel. These areas are still relatively small so with the rest of the paint detailed they will not detract horribly. The rubber seals around the side windows and windshield header are dried out and cracked from constant sun exposure so they will need to be replaced. (Replacement seal kits are readily available from the Corvette aftermarket.) The black convertible top itself is in good condition and the rear window is real glass so it is nice and clear unlike some convertibles with plastic rear windows. The Foose wheels have damage to the chrome plating but have no curb damage and will polish up to be presentable from a few feet away and rolling down the road. The tires are dry and hard and the left rear has a tear in the sidewall that allows it to go flat after about a week. The tire will hold air to be rolled and loaded for transport. The brake rotors have surface rust from not being driven and should be removed and slightly machined by to a fresh finish before driving. Upon getting it running it was discovered that it has a noisy throw out bearing for the clutch. The clutch seems to operate fine but the bearing will need to be replaced. Aside from the throw out bearing the car overall really just needs a good top-to-bottom cleaning and going over. A case of Mobil One oil and a new oil filter are included as I did not get around to doing the oil change.
Conditions Of Sale:
The car is located at my place of business in West Covina, Southern California. I would be happy to arrange for you to view the car in-person before bidding. If you would like to arrange a viewing or call with questions please message me through Ebay and we will set it up. I will be happy to answer any questions to the best of my knowledge.
The car has a clear title in my Father-In-Laws name and according to him has been on Planned Non-Operation.
Buyer is responsible for pickup and transport of the car. I will make myself available any day and time that works best for you or a transport service. Because of the condition of the tires, brakes and the fact that it has been sitting for so long (outlined above) the car should not be driven until it has been gone over and those issues are resolved. The buyer will need to trailer or arrange transport.
Buyer must PayPal a $500 deposit 3 days (72 hours) from the close of auction. The balance will be paid by cash or certified bank check before or upon pickup.
This car is being sold AS IS with no warranty and no returns.
