If you're a fan of GM's K5 sport-ute, you already know finding a clean one like this 1973 GMC Jimmy is virtually impossible. Most have spent their lives off-roading, pulling trailers, pushing plows, and doing other heavy labor until there's nothing left. But once in a great while, you might get lucky and find just the right one. Well, this is one of those rare opportunities and this is one of those rare trucks.
When I talk about nice, I mean this Jimmy is off-road ready and has been used properly by playing in the dirt. Starting with a rust-free southern body certainly helps, but adding a substantial pile of dollar bills definitely makes things interesting. Applied about six years ago, the Red,silver and Gray paint is both high-impact and period perfect on the square-jawed GMC, and offers a good shine and depth thanks to modern paint technology. You don't have to work in a body shop to see how straight this one is, with crisp relief lines, decent panel alignment, and a reflection that looks good but isn't so perfect you'll be afraid to use it. The grille was replace for a Billet,but the original still available which works rather well with the new paint, and the oversized fender flares are probably mandatory with those giant off-road tires. Chrome bumpers add a little sparkle and the tailgate is in great shape, another real rarity on a truck like this.
The interior is a clean, fresh place to have some fun in the sun, complete with new black upholstery on the front buckets and rear bench. The door panels and dash appear to be excellent original pieces, which should tell you something about how well-preserved this truck truly is. The carpets and dash pad are new, so it feels fresh and the paint job was obviously quite thorough. Original gauges are showing their age but all seem to be operational and there's a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo system for entertainment. The top engine in 1973 was Chevy's venerable 350 cubic inch V8, but was replace with a nice and healthy 454 Engine today. There's a Holley 4-barrel carb on top, an HEI ignition system, but otherwise it's pretty stock and shows some signs of use. There's Chevy Orange on the block itself and a few chrome pieces brighten up the otherwise all black engine bay a bit. But it's not designed to be pretty, so it starts quickly and idles with a great V8 rumble from the recent dual exhaust system. The chassis is reinforced with a modest 4-inch lift, and the working parts include a freshly rebuilt TH350 3-speed automatic and a bulletproof 12-bolt rear axle. It's solid and surprisingly clean underneath, and obviously hasn't seen any off-roading since the work was completed. And you'll really dig the wheels, which mirror the color combination and wear a set of brand-new 40x12.5-15 off-road radials that look ready to go anywhere.
