This is a one owner car that was purchased off the showroom floor of 'Dick Genthe Chevrolet' (Southgate, MI.) in December of 1986, and remains completely stock with full documentation included. It is original in everything and ready to be enjoyed or shown. All the original documentation includes the original title from 1986 (canceled), window stickers, purchase documents, and every bit of service done up to the current original 64,800 miles is on hand. It has never modified, and always adult owned. Stored inside every winter, it hasn't seen its first flake of snow

Lots of love and care.....
It's resplendent in its original black basecoat/clearcoat finish with silver trim and stripes, black canvas top and gray cloth interior. Overdrive automatic 700r4 trans with the LB9 305ci TPI engine. Cold A/C, PW, PL, AM/FM cassette and tilt/cruise are some of the options.
ASC built almost every convertible of the era, including the Toyota Celica, Nissan 240SX, Infiniti M30, Saab 900, Renault Alliance, etc. ASC built all the other official GM convertibles of the era except the '90-'95 Cutlass Supreme and Corvette (ASC built the folding top parts). Numbers produced are officially uncertain, but according to "Chevy Enthusiasts" magazine ASC only made 82 Camaro convertibles in 1986. The "Special Edition" cars sequence was started in 1986 and carried on through 1988 production with less than 1000 built over 3 years.
Some early 1986 cars were destroyed by GM and ASC as test cars, some were later distributed to GM management, and a few were sold to the public through GM dealerships. Most of the ASC cars were converted prior to the selling dealers taking possession, though dealerships could send cars off their lots to ASC for conversion. Dealers would normally factory order a new T-top car, and then have it drop-shipped to ASC to be converted to convertibles before going on to the dealer. Interestingly there is some history that the ASC conversion was actually a joint engineering effort between GM and ASC engineers. Ultimately there were some things that had changed from the prototype, for example the very first converted Camaro had the spears go all the way to the mirrors, the windshield trim piece was painted black instead of body color, etc. The door spears were shortened to about 8", and then the caps were eliminated from the doors altogether in 1988 and the paint around the windshield remained body color.
As demand increased, GM wanted to make the order process easier for dealerships so the convertible option was created for dealer to include convertibles in factory orders of 1987 model cars. ASC made all of the "factory" ordered Camaro (and later Firebird) convertibles from 1987 thru 2002. The 1986 ASC converted cars are nearly identical to the 1987 models; one difference for 1987 and later cars being the VIN body code digit being changed to a 3 to designate a convertible.
