The 1946 Chevrolet Fleetmaster 2 Door Town Sedan
My name is Al Rivera, I am a broker. I have been hired to sell this vehicle. The pictures listed in the auction were taken by my digital camera and they have not been photo-chopped, manipulated or re touched.
I am not an expert on Chevy Fleetmasters, but I sure have learned a lot about them putting this auction together. I have had a lot of fun gathering as much information as I could.
Up for auction is this really cool and classic1946 Chevrolet Fleetmaster 2100 Series 2 Door Town Sedan. It has been a southern California car, through out it's life. I see a little surface rust, which is normal, for an older car. I did note on the right rear bumper, some of the chrome is lifting up from a little rust. The owner is not able to drive the car anymore and decided it was time to sell his long time friend.
This car has been maintained in "original" working order all its life. It has never been restored, and still looks wonderful. It just keeps starting up and driving down the road. It has the original 80,580 miles on it. The engine seems to be in great shape, starts right up and have not noted any exhaust smoke at all, even on acceleration. This Fleetmaster still has the original 216.5 cc in line six cylinder engine, that keeps running. When this car was new, it was the same exact color. The Top is a darker green called "Volunteer Green" and the lighter green on the body is called "Sea foam Green." This is how it looked on the showroom floor as it looks today. It comes with the original 3 speed manual transmission that is located on the steering column. Drives beautifully, even when shifting, I don't hear a single grinding of the gears. The exhaust has been modified to the "dual Cruiser" pipes, so you get a little sound when you push the gas. The interior originally came in a gray pin stripe, but it eventually wore out and so it has been replaced. A short tan pile mohair, has been used as the replacement material for the seats and headliner and looks wonderful. The seats are still quite comfortable as they always have been. Comes with the driver side search light feature that does work, and is fun to use at night. An optional accessory of the day, a turn signal unit has been installed on the steering column. A nice feature, a working heater, how nice. I love the front windshield sun visor which was added later. The car has been repainted, but still in the original Chevrolet colors. I noted that most windows have been replaced with safety glass.
This car was originally manufactured in Janesville, Wisconsin, and then brought to California. It was number 1,461 in the production of Fleetmasters for 1946. The 46-1011 style number gives it the 2100 designation as the Top of the Line Chevrolet for 1946.
The lights, speedometer, radio and clock seem to be working, well. Some of the other guages are not working as accurately. The horn is not working at the moment. The suspension, front end, shocks and springs seem to be in great shape, and drives straight. The Fleetmaster has new fresh brakes, front and rear with new wheel cylinders and hardware kits and works perfectly. A new set of BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial Wide Whitewall tires have been installed, in which, it gives you that added confidence of steering, ride, comfort and safety. This car starts, steers and stops, perfectly. The Fleetmaster still runs on the original six-volt system and is working well.
It is a very nice car, and is reasonably priced. When you consider the cost of finding a car and then restoring it, it takes time and money. Many times, you don't even get a chance to drive it until it gets restored, and that may take years. This car is in good shape, you can jump in it, start it and go, and have fun driving it. You can restore it whenever you want to or not at all, but you have a car that is "turn key." I really don't think you should pass this one up. One thing to remember, all offers are welcomed! This just might be in your driveway before you know it!
Chevrolet in 1946
The war had ended in 1945. The general public had gone with out new cars for about 4 years, and they were clamoring for anything that started and ran. Chevrolet had gained a great reputation before the war as good dependable transportation. The Super Deluxe model as named before the war. The new Chevrolet's had new revised nameplates for their models starting in 1946 and running through 1948, such as, Stylemaster, Fleetline, Fleetmaster, Sport Sedan, Town Sedan, Aresosedan, Sportmaster Sedan. The Sport Master sedan came with the three chrome side moldings, only, the other models did not carry that option. The public loved the new Chevrolet and bought them as soon as they got produced. The 2 Door Town sedan in this auction, is one of those survivors of a bygone era, and will still be around for a long time as long it has a family to take care of it.
