Description:

1961 Chevrolet Corvair 500

We have too many projects so we are downsizing our fleet of project cars.
Meet "Pugsley", a 1961 Jewel Blue Corvair Lakewood "500" Station Wagon.
Pugsley appears to be all original. We see no signs of accidents or repainting. He has the correct station wagon motor in him which we believe to be original (but cannot 100% guarantee it). The engine number is "02I7ZB" That's "zero-two-eye-seven-zee-bee." His body is very straight and all doors, hood and trunk open and close easily and solidly. The original seats are in very good shape for 56 year old seats. The floor was once covered with a rubber mat. Some parts of the rubber mat remain, but it's trash. The front trunk area has some minor rust but the floor is solid.
It appears that Pugsley was last on the road in 1973/74. He is still sporting his last Pennsylvania inspection sticker from 1973 which shows he had 60,172 miles on him at the time of inspection. His odometer now shows 60,500.3 miles. Based on the inspection sticker mileage, we believe this is original mileage. It is our understanding that he had been sitting in a Pennsylvania Barn since that time. He had quite the layer of dirt and bat guano on him to support that claim. We do not know why he was parked. He belonged to the seller's late father who loved Corvairs. We bought him out of the barn 2 years ago.We received both a Bill of Sale and a clear PA title with the car.
Pugsley's engine turns freely. We have not tried to start him. Power glide transmissions are pretty much bulletproof.Pugsley is a good solid restoration candidate. That was our plan for him. The parts needed to restore him are readily available from multiple sources, both new and used. Some of the harder-to-get itemsfor Lakewoodsinclude the glass. Because the roofline is taller than a sedan or coupe, the glass in a Lakewood is unique to this body style.Pugsley's glass is all in excellent condition. He even has a very rare tinted windshield. Priced individually, the glass alone is worth more than the starting price for this car.
With all this being said, Pugsley was a Pennsylvania Car. His primary issues are as follows:~He has rust in his rocker panels. Replacement rocker panels are available.
~His front floor boards were repaired for rust. They are solid, but not correct as flat metal was used vs. proper floor pans. If you don't care about such things, the front floors are OK.
~The driver's rear floor has a hole in it and will need to be replaced. Replacement floor pans are available as well.~The tires are the same bias ply tires that have been on the car since before 1974. As you can imagine, they're trash. The right rear will not hold air at all.~I don't think the paint can be buffed out. But you could possibly clear coat in a matte finish if you wanted to preserve as much of the car's originality as possible.~There is some rust in the front sub-frame. Any early model Corvair sub-frame will fit this car (except maybe a 1960?) and are easy to find.
Other points to mention:~We do have a clear title.~We do not have keys.~We do have the lock for the front trunk; it has been removed to allow access to the trunk with a screw driver.~We do not have an owner's manual. They are frequently available on ebay, typically for $10-15.00.
Photos are considered part of the description; HOWEVER, the 2-prong spinner wire hubcaps in the photos are not part of the sale. A set of 4 standard Corvair hubcaps will be included.
