Description:

1964 Chevrolet Corvette 2-door coupe

RARE! This is one of only 243 Corvette coupes Chevrolet produced in 1964 with the L76 Special High Performance engine (327cid/365hp) and C60 factory air conditioning (see Corvette Restoration Guide Vol. 2, p. 213). Other options on this car include a Muncie M20 4-speed transmission, Positraction, 3.08 rear axle, AM/FM radio, and tinted glass. The odometer shows only 52420 miles and is believed to be original and correct.

I have owned this car for 8 years and spent over $16,000 on new and replacement parts. Work that was done includes:

New front and rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders and stainless brake lines
Rebuilt front suspension, with new springs, ball joints, tie rod ends, A-arm bushings and sway bar bushings
New shock absorbers (all four)
New Delco high-output alternator
New high-torque starter motor
New clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing
New A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, receiver/dryer and hoses. Has cycling compressor clutch and R134a refrigerant
New heater core, bypass valve and hoses
Mallory electronic ignition
DeWitts aluminum radiator, with supplemental electric fan to prevent overheating
Stainless steel mufflers and exhaust pipes
Relay-operated halogen headlights
Re-chromed front and rear bumpers
High-end Morel rear speakers
New gauges and reconditioned steering wheel
Hurst 4-speed shifter
Many other new interior and exterior trim parts -- too much to list!

The engine is non-original but was built to L76 specifications by a previous owner. It includes upgrades such as aluminum pistons, roller rockers, and desirable 3973487x cylinder heads. Compression is spot-on, and there is no noticeable wear in the cylinder bores. The motor starts right up and runs very strong. The transmission shifts smoothly, and there are no abnormal noises.

The frame is straight and solid with virtually no rust. The fiberglass body is good but shows evidence of past minor damage that has been repaired reasonably well. There are only two very small stress cracks. The car has been re-painted once in the original color of Ermine white. The paint is decent but exhibits a few minor chips and surface defects. The black interior is in very good condition with no rips, tears or other damage. Everything is there, including the jack and spare tire. Importantly, everything works, including the radio, the clock and the factory air conditioning.

To summarize, this is a rare Corvette that runs well and looks good as-is. Although it has many modern upgrades, it is not a numbers-matching show car. However, with some work it could be. This iconic C2 Corvette coupe is ready to be driven and enjoyed right now, perhaps being upgraded to a concours example at some future date. The reserve price is well under asking prices for similar cars.
