Description:

1956 Chevrolet Other Pickups 3100

This 3100 was a "cab-on" restoration. Everything but the bare cab was removed from the truck for restoration. The truck came from Oregon, where to the best of my research is had three previous owners. At some point in its service life it was converted to four-wheel drive for more convenient use as a forest service truck. The restoration began with a complete disassembly of the body, and running gear. Being a west coast truck the rust was minimal. The lower cab corners and lower door pillar pockets were replaced. Superfluous holes in the firewall were similarly repaired. A small tear in the lower right front fender was also repaired. All body work was done to minimize use of bondo. The paint is single stage urethane Hugger Orange and Bombay Ivory. Since this is a daily driver and my work truck, I use it the paint has sustained a few minor chips in it, see pics. The door-fender gaps are fine, but if I was keeping the truck I'd equilibrate them. The bed wood was replaced with new oak and stainless hardware, which along with the nifty marine fuel hatch makes it pop. The behind the seat gas tank was removed and replaced with a baffled, stainless steel tank between the rear frame rails. The windshield is new; the side, vent and rear window are original to the truck at the time I purchased it. The upholstery is a stock cover with new foam. There are three seatbelts, carpet, firewall insulation, Old Air heat/AC, a Kenwood head unit, a nice Classic Instruments speedo and a cool 60's Chevelle SS steering wheel. The doors have bear claw latches.

Here is the breakdown on the other goodies on this truck:

The drivetrain is mounted on the stock 1956 frame, which was cleaned and epoxy painted.

Electrical: Ron Francis harness, Kenwood head unit, stock wipers, new wiper motor. Halogen head lamps, LED rear lamps, stock front directional, remote ignition kill switch, high output alternator. NOTE: The pre-amp, speakers and subwoofer for the head unit are included with the sale of the truck but I never got around to installing them. Overhead light isn't working, probably a bad bulb.

Cooling system: 5 core, brass radiator, new water pump

Engine: 388 Chevy stroker built by Dana Hard, (Camco Racing Engines), in Weymouth, MA. 400 crank/350 4-bolt block, 0.60 over, forged crank, Comp Cams XE274H cam, hydraulic lifters, roller rockers with 1.60/2.02 valves and hardened seats. 425HP/400 ft.lb.

Fuel Delivery: Intake is Edelbrock Performer, Holley Terminator EFI. The engine was built to 425HP/400ft.lb. specs.

Clutch: Centerforce disc and pressure plate.

Tranny: NV4500, 5 speed. Transfer case: NP205

Rear axle: GM 12 bolt with a Richmond Powertrax locker, 2 inch blocks to level the truck.

Front axle: Dana 44, Mile Marker locking hubs

Wheels: Corvette Rally, 15" x 10" with Corvette center caps.

Tires: BFG All Terrain T/A 33" x 15"

Rear suspension: stock, HD Chevy leaf packs for the 1956 3100

Front suspension: 7-leaf spring packs, front sway bar from a Chevy K5.

Steering: Saginaw power with Borgeson linkage. Since this is a lifted truck there is a small amount of wander on the highway, but it's minor. If I were going to keep the truck I'd install a hydraulic assist steering unit.

Exhaust: Sanderson headers with a stainless steel dual exhaust system.

Brakes: power disc in front, power drum in the rear.

Emergency brake: stock and it works.

The truck drives like a 1956 truck should drive, tight and firm. I use it for driving around town, trips to the transfer station, beekeeping and the occasional trip to the grocery store. The reason I'm selling the truck is because I'll be relocating soon and I'm selling my toys. My asking price is $30,000.00 I will consider reasonable offers. The truck is sold "as is".
