Description:

1972 Chevrolet Camaro SS

For sale is a 1972 Chevrolet Camaro. This is an original SS 396 Big Block car from Arizona. It received a frame-off restoration at home and was completed in 2009. The car sits on new body mounts, all new suspension front and rear, including springs and 2” dropped front spindles. Front and rear sub-frames are joined by bolt-in frame connectors. A Ford 9” rear differential is rebuilt with 3.50 gears, a posi unit and 28 spline axles. All the brake components were replaced with factory discs in front, drums in the rear, new lines/hoses and a new power assisted brake master cylinder using an electric vacuum pump and reservoir. A 20 gallon fuel cell is mounted in the trunk along with an Optima battery.

Power is from a stroked 496 cubic inch Big Block Chevy motor. It was professional built by Bud Yancer of MACH Development in Arizona. He used high quality parts throughout and topped the block with Edelbrock aluminum heads and an Edelbrock fuel injection manifold and management system. The motor is dyno’ed at over 630 Horsepower and all receipts are on hand for review. Coated headers and a 2 1/2” Flowmaster exhaust system runs out to the back of the car. This Camaro sounds awesome all the way around. Polished March pulleys and serpentine belt system is used along with a polished AC compressor. A Ron Davis aluminum radiator and 2 electric fans keep it all very cool even in Arizona.

Transmission is a Turbo 400 professionally built by Hughes Transmissions. It is capable of handling all 600+ horsepower and more. Hughes also provided a 3000 stall converter. A dedicated trans cooler and fan are also installed.

The body and floors on this Arizona car was very clean to start with. There was minimal work in preparing the body for the Porsche Red 2 stage paint job. The Matte Blank is paint and not a wrap and a pinstripe of Chevy Orange follows the cut line between them. Windows are lightly tinted and split front bumpers were added for the RS feel. WELD WHEEL Drag Stars are used all around, front (15 x 4) and back (15 x 8) with Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T tires.

There are less than 5 thousand miles on the restoration. This car is a driver and yet can be a called on to perform at any moment. The interior is a combination of new original and custom touches. Dyna-mat was installed throughout and an Old Air Products A/C unit makes it cool and quiet and very comfortable for long cruises. A 6 point roll cage has been padded and covered and custom black PROCAR bucket seats from Jeg’s are accented in red. A quick release GRANT steering makes entry and exiting easier. Rear seat is installed. Weather stripping and rubber parts have all been replaced.

Again, this Camaro was built to be a civilized beast if you want to call it that. She is unassuming and comfortable but the sound it makes lets everyone know she is for real. If you can make the time see this machine for yourself, I encourage it. If you have a representative in the area, that works too. There is documentation/recepts for the work performed and specifications available for review. This car is sold “AS IS, WHERE IS” and no warranties are expressed or implied.
