1962 Chevrolet Corvette Restomod

Purists this may not be your cup of tea but if you're a guy who loves the old-school Corvette look with all the modern conveniences then this is the 'Vette for you. 1962 was the final year of the C1 or "solid axle" Corvette and there's an undeniable appeal to these cars that none of its later siblings were able to capture. The fact that this one is also beautifully built and insanely fast well that only makes it easier to love. The main thing is that this car has not been substantially cut or altered in a way that erases its identity or the basic old car feeling of a vintage 'Vette. The bodywork is totally stock and was repainted about five years ago using a period combination of Roman Red and Ermine White that still looks great today. Yes we know that the '62 didn't have contrasting side coves but given how great it looks who can blame a guy for making it work here? This isn't an NCRS car anyway. The finish is holding up rather well with a brilliant shine and very nice fiberglass underneath making this a car that will get second glances and holds up under scrutiny. In fact if not for the flashy wheels this car could probably pass for a restored stocker at many shows which was entirely the point. Experts will also note the crossed flag emblems on the fenders but otherwise the details are exactly right from the bright chrome bumpers and grille to the beautiful round insignia on the deck lid. Nobody will ever argue that this isn't a great-looking Corvette. The interior maintains the illusion with factory-style buckets tucked neatly under the rear deck. Everything has been restored so the upholstery is in excellent shape with minimal wear there are recent carpets on the floor and the door panels are very accurate reproduction pieces. The gauges are in excellent condition and they're all fully functional and it'll take a sharp eye to spot the aftermarket steering wheel which uses stock-style spokes and a slightly fatter rim. The original PowerGlide 2-speed automatic has been replaced by a TH350 3-speed and the shifter cleverly hides that upgrade and even the radio looks OEM. It includes a nicely fitted white convertible top for emergencies as well as a white painted convertible top that provides awesome contrast especially with the side coves painted to match. The engine isn't radical a 327 cubic inch V8 that dates to 1965 or so and it's been rebuilt and detailed to look correct. Don't be fooled however because there's a FAST fuel injection system making it run and an MSD electronic ignition system. The air cleaner chrome ignition shields and valve cover decals help with the illusion but you'll note a few modern parts tucked in there including an alternator upgraded aluminum radiator and a modern brake master cylinder. The front suspension is a fresh Jim Meyers C4 setup with A-arms coil-overs and rack-and-pinion steering plus there are big disc brakes at all four corners. In back there's a familiar live axle with a giant sway bar bolted on so this car rides and handles like no early 'Vette you've ever driven. The dual exhaust has the right combination of aggression and tone and the wheels are right-sized 17-inchers with 215/50/17 BFGoodrich T/A radials all around. This resto-mod nails it: the best of the C1 look with just the right upgrades to make it fast fun and reliable.
