1979 Chevrolet Corvette

This Corvette just looks right. Maybe it's the really nice paint job, or maybe it's those timeless chrome wheels, but this 1979 Sting Ray perfectly captures the feel of the era. It also packs its original, numbers-matching engine and a beautiful leather interior, so if you're looking for a great starter Corvette, it'll be hard to do better than this. The lovely finish on this car is very unique and beautiful, with a healthy dose of metallic in the finish it has a soft shine and an iridescent look that transcends garden-variety colors and turns it into something special. Look at the way the light dances over those swooping fenders and tell me again that this is not a great color. Look a little closer and you'll see that the fiberglass underneath is quite nice and the guys in charge of the paint department handled the prep the right way. Fit and finish is just about how the factory would do it, good but not perfect, and the car has an overall look that's quite honest. Tan leather was the premium interior choice in 1979, and the original seats in this car remain in very good shape. The leather has taken on that comfortable, lived-in look that so many people try to replicate but which only time can really achieve, and it's supported by very nice original door panels and carpets. Factory gauges still look good with crisp, bright white markings on their faces, visible through a steering wheel with an aftermarket leather wrapper. The only major deviation from stock inside is the modern Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in the dash. T-tops mean open air motoring is always an option, and both tops will stow easily in the compartment behind the seats where they have their own seatbelts to hold them safely in place. The wonder that is the small block Chevy provides power, this time in L48 guise and making 185 horsepower. Of course, more power is just a few phone calls away, but even in completely stock form, the engine has great torque and moves the 'Vette with ease and a great V8 burble. Reliability like this is unparalleled in any other 2-seat sports car, and the clean engine bay suggests that this '79 has always been someone's toy, not a daily driver. Underneath, it's quite clean, showing signs of use but no cause for worry. 4-wheel discs, power steering, and a limited slip differential were standard equipment, and the TH350 3-speed automatic was the most popular transmission option that year. It starts quickly, idles right, drives well, and you'll probably find that you feel comfortable behind the wheel almost instantly. The only visual component that isn't stock are those chrome wheels, which wear 225/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. If your tastes run to fuelies and split-windows, but your budget says otherwise, this 1979 Corvette gets you into the game at a very reasonable price.
