1968 Chevrolet Corvette

Wow a 1968 Corvette with chrome bumpers a 4-speed and vivid Rally Red paint job for a very affordable price? There's no catch just a cool resto-mod of a Corvette with a few tricks up its sleeve. For those of you who don't mind a few modifications this is a Corvette built to drive with a look that works.Originally code 978 International Blue this Corvette now wears Rally Red and we think it's fitting for a car with this much performance. Rally Red attracts attention there's no doubt about that and when a car looks this good it's probably safe to say that more than a few guys dumped their European sports cars for a chance behind the wheel of America's fantastic plastic. Finished a few years ago this one is ideal for cruising and long-distance touring and you won't cry every time it rains yet it still looks good enough to make heads turn everywhere it goes. Things like the headlight doors hood and T-tops all fit rather well. Chrome bumpers are popular with Corvette fans and as a first-year Sting Ray it also offers the trick hidden wipers that notably streamline the whole car's profile. And while they probably add a bit of horsepower the side pipes are as much styling statement as performance enhancement and the look better on this Corvette than on anything this side of a Shelby Cobra.A medium blue vinyl bucket seat interior was original equipment but somewhere along the line someone transplanted an entire interior from a later C3 complete with silver leather buckets new carpets and color-matched details. Neatly restored it offers great comfort and thanks to the light color remains cool even on hot days with the top down. Fresh carpets and new door panels were installed during the restoration as well and there's no critical wear to speak of on any of the major components. The factory gauges are in extremely good condition with bright markings and clear lenses and they all work as they should. The factory radio is gone replaced long ago with a JVC AM/FM/cassette head unit but it sounds decent. The T-handle shifter for the 4-speed is a bright piece of sculpture in the gray interior and you'll never grow tired of slicing through the gears. Other options include power windows factory A/C.Power comes from a strong-running 383 cubic inch stroker motor that's a match for just about anything they were building in 1968. It looks like an unassuming 350 complete with chrome air cleaner and valve covers but the extra displacement and willingness to rev set this one apart. It is tidy but not detailed for show and like any small block Chevy it starts with a snarl idles perfectly and pulls hard with a ferocious snarl from those gorgeous side pipes. An Edelbrock intake Holley carb and cackling solid lifter camshaft provide that vintage Corvette sound and a BeCool aluminum radiator keeps it cool under all circumstances. The chassis is original and not detailed for show but has been maintained and includes things like a fiberglass monoleaf spring out back. Four handsome Torque Thrust wheels with black centers and spinners give it a custom look and carry fat BFG rubber all around.Corvette ownership is within reach and this cool '68 offers perks like a strong-running stroker motor a 4-speed and a great color combination.
