1956 Chevrolet Handyman Wagon

Highly Awarded Show Car

The handyman wagon coupled the classic good looks of the sedans of that era with the extra space and capability of a wagon. This is a true show car with the awards to prove it. Pull up to a show in this ride and you are guaranteed to walk home with at least one trophy. The product of a collection of highly respected car builders, this wagon far exceeds any on the market.

BODYWORK

Look all you want but you would be hard pressed to find a 1956 wagon with this much show stopping ability. This is a unique chance to own a highly awarded Randy Ward of Rod Benders built masterpiece. The bodywork done by Custom Auto Body in San Juan Capistrano is done to the highest caliber. The ultra-smooth rust free body allows the candy blue metallic over silver metallic paint to be as striking as any paint job I have seen. This handyman wagon served as a canvas for the custom culture icon, Jimmy C out of San Clemente. Jimmy C has been producing sought after custom culture inspired art for several decades, laying down some of the best flames and pinstripes in the industry. This wagon is no exception. The flame job on this ride pays homage to the custom hot rods of the 50s while still separating itself from the pack. In fact, the paint is so spectacular that a panel of judges awarded this wagon to be the 2008 PPG Hot Wheels Spectraflame Paint Your Ride Contest Grand Prize beating out 12 other finalists. In 2009 Hot Wheels produced an actual toy car replicating this 1956 Chevrolet handyman Wagon.

The chrome and stainless is all in great condition and accompanies the paint wonderfully. The front bumper and grill give the wagon a sleek, well-refined appearance

To finish out the exterior, the car is fitted with new rubber and all new glass.

ENGINE

Pop the hood of this 56 wagon and you will find a striking engine bay highlighted by a blown 496 cubic inch 4 bolt main motor and is mated to the unbreakable turbo 400 transmission. This 496 features lightweight Keith Black blower pistons to improve throttle response and RPM changes. Highly respected Engel Cams custom ground the cam for the motor. The engine bay is masterfully finished with chrome and billet accessories that is truly show quality.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Randy Ward fabricated a custom air ride system allowing you to tailor the ride stance of the amazing ride to your liking. He tubbed the rear end and moved the springs under the frame creating room for the torque thrust wheels with new rubber to sit effortlessly behind the wheel well. This wagon features a 9 inch rear end and a 4 speed automatic transmission that shifts wonderfully and is coupled with a Lokar shifter and custom shift knob. Stopping in an ease with power disc brakes on all corners. Such a large vehicle can be a lot to handle however the addition of power steering make this wagon a pleasure to maneuver whether in a parking lot or driving down the highway.

The undercarriage has been treated with the same care and attention to detail as the rest of the car. The exhaust installed by John Mutch of Savi Ranch Auto in Yorba Linda creates a terrific rumble befitting of a classic of this caliber.

INTERIOR

When you make your way into the wagon you are greeted with a wonderful gray leather interior with all the modern goods to make your Sunday afternoon drive that much more enjoyable. The interior is what you would expect from a show car of this caliber. The stitch work and comfort of the seats are off the charts. It is the perfect mix of an old classic feel with modern touches. Boston Acoustic sound system and A/C installed by John Mutch of Savi Ranch Auto will having you rocking in comfort. You haven’t experienced music until you’ve cranked your favorite tunes inside this wagon. The installation is very clean and sounds terrific.
