1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne

1972 Chevy Cheyenne 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super C10 2WD Long Bed ~~Survivor/Time Capsule~~
You are looking at my grandfather's Chevy Cheyenne Super C10 pickup purchased new by him on January 12, 1972. He traded in his 1967 Chevy Camaro for this truck as he needed a truck for his monument business. My grandfather added a few items to the purchase that he considered necessities. He had an Delco air support shocks system added to the rear. A heavy duty LaVerne rear bumper was also added for a bit more protection. A CB radio was a must so that he could keep in contact with my grandmother back at the house while he went about his work day delivering hand-chiseled monuments. The bed has the optional wood floor and passenger bed-side tool storage. A trailer brake controller was added for when he pulled his travel trailer. My grandfather was meticulous in his ways and this truck was always garaged and well taken care of; washed and waxed often. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away in a motorcycle accident just a few short years after purchasing this truck. My grandmother was on the motorcycle as well and spent a year in the hospital. When she finally got back in her home she was very protective of everything that belonged to my grandfather. No one could even go into the garage where the truck was kept. She used it every spring to pick up top soil and flowers for her garden and the occasional other truck bed duties but beside that it remained in her garage for the next 40 years until she passed away. Upon her passing I was given the truck (about 5 years ago). We towed it from Colorado to Utah and took it to my father-in-law's shop to flush all the fluids and check everything before we started it. We did some basic maintenance like a carburetor rebuild, front bearing pack, spark plugs and belts and some new seals. After the carb rebuild and maintenance we were shocked at how easy it started and how smooth it idles. I put new tires on it about 4 years ago and they have less than 1000 miles on them. I have garaged it ever since as well. I have used it for some light duty truck needs like picking up some lumber and such but beside that and the summer-day Sunday drives it has hardly had over 1000 miles on it the last 5 years.
I have recently purchased a newer truck with 4 doors to fit the whole family and can see that this truck will likely sit around not being used or loved like it should. It runs absolutely fantastic and rides just as good. It gets "thumbs-up" every time I drive it and it is a pleasure to drive. The brakes work so well they will throw you through the windshield if you're not belted up!
I kept the truck just like I got it and it is basically just like my grandfather got it some 44 years ago. As expected, being an original truck there are some imperfections. Overall the paint is good. I just had it professionally detailed and it's smooth and shines nicely. There is some gravel pitting on the front paint surfaces. Some paint has flaked off on the passenger bedside as well. There are superficial scratches here and there but overall the truck shows very nicely. The bright work is all there and in real nice condition as are the original rubber window and door seals. The windshield has some scratches but no cracks and the passenger side view mirror is cracked. Speaking of the side view mirrors, it's nice to see that it has the original factory mirrors and has not had screws drilled into the doors to mount the typical "truck mirrors" of the era. The grill has a couple of small dents and a small crack as well but doesn't detract from the overall look. The bed interior is in solid condition and as mentioned above has a wood floor. It would look amazing refinished. The right tail light is cracked and the lower part of the lens is missing. As you are likely aware, replacement parts for these trucks can be found at LMCtruck.com
The interior is all original as well and is in good shape. The factory hound’s-tooth cloth looks nice but does have a split seam in the driver’s inboard side. A couple small cracks on the driver’s outboard side but not terrible at all. The carpet is good overall with just a small stain on the driver’s side of the tranny hump. T he headliner card is sagging a bit but stays in place. The dash pad is near perfect, no cracks or holes. The gauge cluster all functions as it should. All of the lights and signals and such work as well. The steering wheel has cracks in the wheel as well as the center hub. It functions fine but would do well with a replacement or restoration.
As you can see in the photos, my grandfather's business signs are on the doors. Unfortunately, these are not magnets. They are plastic 3D signs which were mounted with an adhesive tape. I think they give the truck great character. I looked at having them removed but it is thought that the signs would be destroyed and possible paint damage if they were removed. If the truck does not sell I would regret having destroyed the signs so I elected to keep them on the truck. There is however no obligation to the buyer to remove and or return the signs.
From the dealer invoice and special equipment plate, here are the specs/factory/dealer options of the truck:
  • Tinted glass
  • Wood floor (bed)
  • Front stabilizer
  • Heavy rear springs
  • Auxiliary springs
  • 3.73 axle ratio
  • Hydraulic brake booster
  • 350 V8 engine
  • Turbo Hydra-matic transmission
  • Power steering
  • Full wheel covers
  • AM pushbutton radio
  • Tool and storage box (bedside)
  • Cheyenne super equipment
  • White/dk blue/white paint
  • Blue cloth custom interior
  • LaVerne heavy duty bumper
There are original service receipts, accessory operating manuals, the owners manual, etc in a folder that was kept in the glove box. The truck has 67,XXX original miles on it. I have tried to represent this truck as honestly and completely as I can. If you have additional questions or would like a photo of a specific area or part of the truck, send me a message and your email address through the "ask seller a question" button and I'll get back to you ASAP.
I am 20 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport (SLC). I don't believe you'd have any problem flying in and driving this truck cross-country. I would be happy to deliver the truck to a shipping location within a 40 mile radius as well.
