This first thing to capture your attention on the car is the stance. Long, ow, nd with more unique features than you can count, he car is the epitome of what a Kustom is, nd when you compare it next to the Harry Hoskin Bel Air from 1955 that was restyled by George Barris, ou clearly see where the inspiration came from! A 1955 Chevy Corvette Grill has been carefully grafted into the front of the car, nd its gleaming chrome finish still looks like new from every angle!
1954 Chevy wrap-around parking lights look amazing, nd are in exceptional condition as well!
Out back, ust like the Hoskin car after it was restyled in 1963, set of Packard Clipper tail light units were carefully molded into the rear of the car for a seamless and clean look.
Hand stamped louvers in the hood and trunk really look fantastic, nd fit the Kustom nature of the car to a T.
Hood was cleaned up along with the trunk to accentuate the clean lines.
The body is exceptionally straight, ll steel, nd has no sign of bondo, ud, r any kind of BS. Door gaps, anel alignment, nd seams are all spot on, nd the work that was done has been completed to the highest level and shows exceptionally from every angle.
The paint on the car is stunning, nd I took photos of it early in the morning to capture the detail of the car, ut it shows much brighter in person, s you can see in the car show photo I attached.
It is glossy, lick, nd wet looking, nd thanks to being hand detailed and waxed over the years, s void of all swirl marks and other issues you generally see.
As you can see in the photos, t really is a mirror-like finish, nd reflects its surrounds about as clearly as you can ask for!
There are a handful of truly minor little blemishes on the car like stone chips, mall hairline scuffs, nd other signs of normal use, ut nothing that detracts from the overall presentation of the Bel Air. The worst blemish is a set of little stone chips on the under roll of the driver side side-skirt, nd I have attached a close up photo of it to show you just how inconsequential it is.
The chrome and bright work on the car is in exceptional condition, s you would expect of car that has been garage kept in climate-controlled storage. There are no signs of any pitting, amage, laking, r other issues, nd you’ll have a hard time finding fingerprints on it!
Dummy Appleton spot lights look fantastic on the car, nd are in great condition, s are the polished wiper arms.
All of the window trim front, ides, nd back, s in exceptional condition, nd functions as it should.
Bumpers are gleaming bright and clean, nd are damage free.
Door handles show like new, nd you will notice the lack of door locks to keep the look clean. The doors lock and unlock via keyless remote, ith a manual safety override.
Functional Lake Pipes on the side of the car look amazing, nd rear exit chrome straight pipes have a full flame-thrower system installed, ut currently disconnected, s well. The flame-thrower worked when he disconnected it, ut I have not reconnected and tested it, o Ido notknow if it needs anything addressed to work or not.
Glass on the car is in very good condition, ith only the faintest signs of use, o cracks or chips, nd no laminate issues or fogging.
Windows glide up and down on newer fuzzies, nd the weather stripping and seals on the car are in exceptional condition as well.
Side trim is in exceptional shape as well, s is the enamel finish baked into it, nd the rocker trim looks beautiful as well.
The car rolls on gorgeous chrome wire wheels with Chevy Tri-Bar centers that show like new! The car has not been formally detailed by me, ut you can see that the current owner keeps it in about as perfect condition as you could ask for. The wheels may have some dust or light grime, ut are damage, it, nd issue free.
The wheels are wrapped in Classic wide whitewall radial tires that look perfect on it, nd have only a few thousand miles on them to boot! They are damage free, nd show wonderfully!
The cars exterior has a tasteful array of hand pinstriped details accentuating it which are very clean looking, one in one-shot, nd about as nice a job as you could ask for! Nothing over-the-top, ust a few accents to trim out the car.
Finally, set of BARRIS KUSTOM body badges adorn the front fenders, aying tribute to the Legend who inspired this build.
Overall, ave for a few very minor blemishes, he cars exterior is a solid 9.2 out of 10, nd really is about clean and nice as they come.
You could take the car to a show RIGHT NOW and not even have to hit with a Cal-Duster to win something. It is THAT nice.
Pop open the hood, nd you are met by an ultra-clean engine bay that is chock full of all the gleaming bright and shiny things to make you happy to show it at any event.
Power is from a GM 265ci V8 that was completely redone from the block out with stock style exhaust manifolds, olished OFFENHAUSER intake, olished and painted EDELBROCK valve covers, RAND NEW Rochester Carb’s and a Tri-Power set-up that is fully functional and tuned to absolute perfection, olished A/C compressor, hrome alternator, hrome brake res cap, hrome pulley system, hrome water pump, hrome generator, hrome battery box, oolant overflow, rim rail, teering unit, nd more!
It shows some dirt and grime from normal use, ut presents very nice right now, o imagine how great it will look when you take the time to wipe it all done and get the nooks and crannies clean after you get it home!
The engine is a relatively stock build, ith no crazy cams or hi compression, o you can run it comfortably on regular pump gas, nd maintain it easily too. It has proven to be quite reliable and issue free in the 4 or so years the prior owerhad it, ndnever left him stranded on a road trip, r short cruise into town!
I have personally driven the car about 175 miles and find it to be an absolute BLAST to cruise in!
Plugs, lug wires, uel pump and filter, ll of the belts, ines and hoses, nd everything else on the car has been refreshed in the past 3,000 miles, o youdo notneed to be concerned with anything but driving it.
I would not personally hesitate to fly in and drive this car home anywhere in the lower 48, eather permitting, s I am quite confident it would make the trip.
I spent some time with the car and found it to be a remarkably smooth running machine with ample power and torque, smooth idle, bsolutely LOVELY exhaust tone, nd no known issues to contend with.
We left the car for quite a long time while reviewing it and photographing it, nd I have to say that it did not even come CLOSE to getting hot. Thanks to a massive, ustom-fabricated aluminum radiator mated to a hi-flow water pump with super-sized electric fan, emperatures stay in the high 150'swithout the air, nd low 160's WITH the air, ven in our obscenely hot 90 degree Florida winter we are experiencing.
Fenderwells are painted and clean, lthough they are dirty from the last little road trip, ut nothing a visit from a hose and towelwon't rectify.
The engine gets power to the rear end via a refurbished Muncie 4-speed with HD clutch and pressure plate. This unit turns a custom-balanced driveshaft connected to the stock rebuilt rear end with a 3.36 gear ratio that makes for fairly friendly highway manners without sacrificing around town muscle.
Everything does what it should to get power to the ground, nd the clutch has smooth and sure take-up and travel, trong engagement, nd handles up shifts and down shifts without issue.
Transmission snicks surely into each gear without issue or incident, nd the rear end is noise free and fully compliant to the whims of the drivers right foot.
Dropped spindles and A-Arms lower the front, hile a traditional block flip kit brings the rear end down to earth, oth without sacrificing ride quality and handling.
Disc brakes up front with drums in the back bring the car down from speed without any issues, nd no excess modulation, ulling, ade, r wander.
The car tracks beautifully on the road, nd does not pull or track oddly at all. You can sit back with one finger on the wheel and relax while cruising the boulevard OR the Interstate.
The underside of the car is clean and rust free, nd shows a light coating of rust proofing spray that still allows you to see all the metal stampings and marks on the undercarriage.
This car was not built to sit on a rack over mirrors, o the underside is not trimmed in chrome or painted to match. It is simply a clean, olid, nd issue-free undercarriage with a complete array of functional neon-lighting installed for use at shows and events.
Open the doors of the car and you are met by an interior that was done in a period style with a nod to modern convenience.
The super comfy front and rear bench seats are in great shape, ith white base and surrounds, ed piping, nd matching red pleats as inserts.
Rear seat looks to be 100% damage and issue free from top to bottom, nd the front only has one, uarter-sized mark on the driver side back edge that was torn and touched up by novice interior person to keep it from becoming worse. It would be easy to just replace that entire side panel, hich we can do for you here for $89.00 over and above your winning bid. Other than that one single mark, he rest of the seating surfaces look amazing, nd are as comfortable as you could ask for!
Side panels, ick panels, nd rear panels are all trimmed in matching off-white leather, nd show wonderfully.
Dash pad is capped in the same leather, nd looks amazing, ith no issues or damage.
Door panels and rear panels get the same off-white red and black leather as the seats, nd is in exceptional condition.
Rear deck is done in the off-white pleated leather, nd holds two polished billet perforated speaker grills covering 6x9 premium speakers. It shows like new.
The headliner is a stock Bel-Air unit done in matching off-white, ith beautiful chrome bows, unctional dome lights, nd matching visors, ne of which has been signed by George Barris himself!
Carpeting is in very nice shape throughout the car, ave for two small areas about the size of a nickel on the driver side of the seat. I have photographed these to show you how small they are, nd I am sure that any competent upholstery shop can use some material from under the seat to repair them for a modest investment.
Stock style two-tone steering wheel from a 1960 Impala is in excellent condition, nd the horn button and emblem look great too!
Chrome column with flaming white cap looks great, s does the turn signal lever.
Dash itself is clean and undamaged, nd has the stock switchgear in place for lights, ipers, nd the stock-appearing AM-FM cassette unit that is mounted in the factory location.
A functional 12V socket holds a stock-style cigar lighter, nd the stock, ocking key switch functions as it should as well.
Chrome glove box looks great, nd has a chrome gauge package mounted below it that holds functional gauges for monitoring AMP, IL, nd TEMP.
A vintage style under-dash A/C unit is actually a modern reproduction, nd blows ice cold thanks to a full R134A conversion, nd a driver side custom installed vent to work with the vents on the main unit.
Factory Bel Air emblem over the clock looks amazing, s does the Chevy logo trim band across the whole dash.
Original gauge pod was cleaned and rebuilt, nd holds a functional Speedo, dometer, nd working fuel and temp gauges, s well as indicator lights for the signals and high beam. The speedo gear has caught on me twice while driving it, nd whirred and clicked itself free. Hasn't happened againsince my first couple trips in the car.
A custom under-dash pod was installed a year ago that holds a new AM/FM/CD/MP3/USB/iPhone capable stereo head unit. Wiring was rerouted from the in-dash cassette to this, ut it can be removed and wired back to the cassette if you prefer when you get the car home.
Chrome E-Brake handle looks great, nd works too!
Billet pedals for high beam, rake, lutch, nd gas all look great and work as they should.
Muncie transmission gets input from a chrome HURST short stick with a flaming ball topper. It looks great, lthough the trim ring shows a bit of light patina.
All of the door pulls, indow rollers, nd vent window rollers are stock style units that show wonderfully.
Overall, he interior of the car shows to be a solid 8.6 out of 10 RIGHT NOW, nd is only a few hundred dollars in simple repairs from being a 9.5.
Push the interior trunk release button and walk to the back of the car, nd you are met by a fully finished trunk that is as nice as the interior!
Fully carpeted, nd treated to the same combination of red, ff-white, leats, nd hardware as the inside of the car, he trunk shows wonderfully, nd appears to be damage and issue free.
A custom routed fuel filler resides inside, nd is vented for safety, long with having a custom made catch to stop those inadvertent gasoline drips from damaging the interior when you fill-er-up!
Everything about the car is beautiful, rom the chrome headlight trim rings to the stunning glass etching on the rear windows.
You can tell it was done right after spending just a few minutes looking it over.
It drives, ooks, andles, tops, tarts, nd performs without issue or incident, nd is more than proven and reliable as the 3,000 odd trouble free miles it has from its previousowner will attest.
