You are viewing a privately owned 1966 Chevrolet Corvette L79 Coupe!
Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this outstanding vehicle.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the private owner who has owned this vehicle for the last 21 years and knows every area of the car inside and out. The vehicle is located in Calgary, lberta Canada. This is a "Blue Chip" investment vehicle and would be a great addition to anyone's auto collection. Don't miss your chance to add this caliber of vehicle to your portfolio. The current owner had the vehicle judged at the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) Northwest Regional Meet in August of 2014. It scored very well with a 90.9, arning it a Second Flight Award. Most of the items that received deductions where corrected and fixed.
There is no reason why this vehicle wouldn't be able to achieve a Top Flight rating the next time the vehicle is judged.
This 1966 Corvette Sport Coupe has just received a total "Nut and Bolt" body-off restoration and has seen no road use since. ("Trailer Queen") An extreme effort has been made to return the car to original factory condition using "NOS" OEM parts where possible. All aspects of the car are in excellent # 1 show condition. One may say, Almost Like New” condition with the odometer showing 81,835 miles which are the actual original miles on the vehicle. What makes this matching number vehicle very desirable is all the factory options. This coupe comes with the high output L79 327 350HP engine, 21 4-speed transmission, ir condition, eal Kelsey Hayes cast aluminum wheels, ower brakes, ower steering, ower windows, ff road exhaust system, 19 A.I.R.(California vehicles), eakwood steering wheel, M/FM radio, tinted glass and much more. Most of these Corvettes back then did not come with a lot of these options.
Please view the video below for a quick tutorial and walk around of the vehicle.
Vehicle's History: The vehicle was originally shipped to Clarke Hatch Chevrolet in El Cajon, alifornia. The current owner had an "Auto Ancestry" performed which located the wife of the second owner in California.(1967-1971) She was contacted and remembers the Corvette fondly.
The current owner purchased the vehicle in December of 1994 from a couple in Calgary, anada. The couple had two '66 Corvettes to choose from at that time. The other Corvette was a roadster complete with side pipes. (This coupe was the wife's car and the roadster was the husband's car. She drove this coupe in a much more respectful lady-like manner.)
It turned out, few parts were “swapped” from this coupe to the roadster, he most notable being the Muncie M21 close-ratio four speed manual transmission. (The current owner didn't know this at that time). During the body-off restoration it was discovered and a two year search that scoured the country began. The roadster was finally located with the “numbers matching” transmission belonging to this coupe. The other owner was contacted and offered to swap this transmission for his, which he readily agreed to. The transmissions were swapped and both Corvettes once again have all their original "Matching Numbers" drivetrain intact.
Below, he owner will describe and go over the car in his detailed description. Please read and view all of the pictures listed below.
Would you buy a car on eBay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO. That is why at Classic Cars Online, ur listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction.

The center console shows no aging of the accent trim and supports the shifter and an ash tray. The car is nicely equipped with driver’s convenience options including single chrome side view mirror, day/night rear view mirror, eater/defroster, ipers/washer, shtray and lighter with courtesy lights. The instrument cluster was removed and detailed. At that time, ll of the gauges where checked and re-calibrated and are working great. It contains the factory installed speedometer and tachometer, uel level, il pressure, oolant temperature and battery gauges with warning lights. The factory clock was upgraded to a quartz movement. The car also has quite a few power options including power brakes, ower steering, ower windows, nd air conditioning. The vehicle has the original AM/FM audio system mounted in the dash panel along with a power antenna. All of the trim inside the car is also very nice. The chrome knobs and dash parts do not show any pitting or problems. Rear Storage Compartment: The storage compartment behind the seats is sporting all the correct items. It is detailed and looks factory including having the jacking instruction label, positraction label and part number label on the cover. The correct jack, acking tools and hold down spring have all been properly restored and look new. The compartment also has the original lead headed hammer that is needed with the optional quick take-off (knock-off) wheels. The vehicle also comes with fire extinguisher. This isn't a factory item, ut it's mandatory when showing the car at all NCRS sanctioned meets.
Glass: All of the glass has been replaced with new correctly dated coded factory tinted glass. All pieces are in excellent condition with no chips, cratches, iper marks, or cracks. The power side windows go up and down without any problems or issues. Engine Compartment: The engine compartment on this vehicle has been correctly restored and highly detailed. It houses the correct ORIGINAL matching number "L79" optional 327 350HP Special High Performance 11.0:1 compression ratio "HD" coded engine. (HD code: Hi-Lift cam, 19 A.I.R., -Speed) Please view the photos below with all the close-up photos of the casting/stamped numbers. The correct 4160 Holley carburetor was rebuilt to factory specs. The correct ignition shielding, ir cleaner, nd fan shroud are all present. It has all new hoses, elts, acuum lines, park plugs, gnition wires along with the fluids. (Big Bucks) They are date coded correctly and are in excellent condition with no corrosion, icks, cratches or curb rash. These knock-off wheels have the correct three ear chrome plated spinners and stainless steel cones. They are also in excellent shape including the red/white/blue painted logo. These tires have the correct 3/8" goldline side wall and have no wear; they even have the little “nubbins” still on the tread. The spare tire also has the correct Kelsey Hayes aluminum wheel with a goldline tire. The spare tire compartment, bucket) is in great shape with no cracks or other problems. The compartment’s lid is held in place with the proper hardware along with the correct optional spare tire lock.
The second set of wheels and tires, shown in all indoor garage photos) are also in very good condition. These are after market knock-off wheels made by "Western". Whitewall Michelin tires are mounted on these wheels. The reason for two sets of wheels is, ne set for the NCRS judged shows and the other set for driving. Both sets of tires are like new with no wear. Undercarriage: During the body-off restoration, he frame/chassis was cleaned, tripped and the properly finished with the correct semi-gloss chassis black paint. This vehicle was never in any accident so the frame was straight and true. It was also very solid and did not need any rust repairs or patches. The factory metal frame rail end caps by the "kick-up" dog legs are still present. The suspension, prings, hocks, rakes, teering components are all detailed with the correct paint finish and stickers. The fiberglass underbody was cleaned and left bare, he same as when it left the factory. The vehicle has been trailered since the restoration was completed so the undercarriage still looks like new and is show ready.
Nine times out of ten, eople selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, o I'm proud to showcase several photos of the undercarriage in the Photo Gallery. Please view them all and see why this vehicle is better than most. Mechanical:
Engine / Transmission / Rear End:
The entire original matching numbers driveline has been professionally rebuilt and has zero miles since the restoration. This L79 350HP power plant was rebuilt to its factory specs by Dale Adams Automotive of Calgary. It starts easily and runs smoothly. The cooling system is stock with a belt driven fan. The engine block is “tight” with no oil or fluid leaks. This Corvette was originally shipped to California therefore needing the "K19" Option. The "K19" Air Injector Reactor system or "A.I.R." is very rare because many of the units were removed and discarded over the years. All of the extremely hard to find A.I.R. items were located, ebuilt, nd refinished. The system not only appears correct but operates flawlessly as well. The factory Holley 4160 carburetor (R3605A) is also an extremely rare 1966 only item, t is unique to a California only A.I.R. cars and it is date coded correctly.
The factory Muncie M21 "Close Ratio" four speed transmission was also rebuilt. The gentlemen doing the rebuilding of the transmission, oticed extremely little wear on the gears, hich would indicate a lifetime of gentle use on the M21 Muncie. All of the bearings, yncros, nd bushings were replaced, ut it was surprising to see how nice the actual hard parts were, ost of those things were destroyed from abuse years ago. The shifter works smoothly and is a joy to run through the gears. The original date coded rear end was dismantled, nspected, nd then rebuilt.
    Brakes:
The vehicle retains its original disc brake configuration. The entire brake system was overhauled with new components during the restoration. The system is working great with no problems. The brakes do not squeak, ull, ade, r pulsate when the pedal is pressed. The parking brake was been correctly adjusted and is working like it should.
    Suspension:
The factory suspension was rebuilt with new components. Everything is either new or rebuilt. The suspension system is factory detailed with all the correct markings, stickers, nd paint finishes. The four new shocks have been painted gray to match the original. The vehicle has the correct stance and drives perfectly. The steering wheel doesn't vibrate, nd the car doesn't pull left or right. There are no rattles, queaks, r noises.
    Exhaust:
The stock exhaust system is new and unmodified. It is bolted to the correct factory cast iron exhaust manifolds. There is no indication of any leaks or rust in the system. The system has all the correct heat shields, angers, lamps, nd grounding straps. This optional (N11) "Off-Road" exhaust system sounds great. You can listen to it in the video – speakers up!!!
    Restoration Overview:
I couldn't remember how long my ’66 had been in a state of perpetual restoration, o I looked at the licence plate, here the last registration had been January 2006. For the benefit of car enthusiasts wanting to know more about restorations, hen I say the restoration is 100% “frame off,” most people go by the typical body shop’s definition: “On our complete frame off restorations, e completely remove the body from the frame and inspect known weak areas for that particular car. The frame is sand blasted clean and coated with an epoxy primer and finished out to your specs or to factory specs.” In the particular case of my ‘66, he body, rivetrain, iring harness, heels, uspension…literally every single part was removed from the frame and then the frame was sandblasted. Any visible signs of undercarriage wear & tear from normal usage were corrected. In the case of my car, here’s a u-shaped yoke (square tubular steel that’s part of the frame) located directly below where the engine is mounted to the frame. Over the years, he lower exterior of that yoke (the lowest part of the frame) gets subjected to “road rash” – the yoke’s job is to protect the lowest point(s) of the engine. If the road rash is severe enough, he yoke’s bottom side can become compressed or dented out of its desired square shape. Restoring the yoke to its original square shape is relatively easy, iven that there’s a factory-original hole on the top side of this yoke and a special tool is used to “punch” the dented part of the lower side of the yoke back to factory original. This is extremely “anal” detail. There are few restorations taken to this degree, ut my goal has been to do everything possible to restore the car to its factory-original condition. Speaking of wear & tear, ents and/or damage due to motor vehicle accidents, hen this body (it’s basically one piece of moulded fibreglass) was lifted off the frame, t’s easy to determine if the car’s ever been repaired as the result of an accident, ecause the only way to repair fibreglass is to use fibreglass. I was very relieved to learn that my car is accident-free. Over 48 years of use, any of the factory-original parts are going to wear out, specially those made of rubber. Rubber dries out and loses its flexibility, o starting at the frame of my ‘66, ll rubber parts were replaced with new ones. In the world of restoration, here’s an acronym called “NOS” meaning “New Old Stock.” When researching replacement parts, OS is the “gold standard” except where rubber is involved. You just don’t replace 48 year old rubber with 48 year old rubber (unless you know for a fact that the 48 year old NOS rubber parts were stored away from light and in a climate-controlled environment). There are a limited number of after-market suppliers who stock newly manufactured rubber replacement parts, nd these are what I purchased during the restoration process. In the previous paragraph, mentioned “researching replacement parts” so, hen I tell you it takes 8 years to do a restoration, here’s a very good reason. To begin with, ou join a non-profit “society” of like-minded restoration aficionados – in the specific case of Corvettes, t’s the NCRS: the official “go to” place for all things Corvette. NCRS publishes a bi-monthly magazine called Driveline, o you read the “Parts for Sale” sections religiously, ontact the seller and make your best deal. Secondly, ou purchase all manuals available through NCRS for the restoration process. These days, ith the advent of instructional DVDs, CRS sells these and I bought them. Every part is date-coded, nd the date had to be prior to the official build date of my ’66 coupe. To do a Corvette restoration properly, ou need technical books, ots & lots of them. From factory manuals to books on restoration written by professionals. Over the years, ’ve collected a ton. To authenticate a restoration, ou need to document the process – I’ve got a ton of photos. To authenticate the finished product, ou need to have it examined by qualified NCRS judges – this happened at the very end of August 2014 in Tacoma, A when I had it trailered to that city for a sanctioned “NCRS Meet”. The vehicle earned a "Second Flight" award with a score of 90.9. Just missing a "Top Flight" rating. Most of the incorrect items and things that the NCRS judges found have been corrected since then. I'm pretty confident that the vehicle will receive a "Top Flight" award at the next NCRS meet the vehicle is judged at.
In closing, 've had a lot of fun owning, riving, howing & restoring my 1966 Corvette coupe. However, fter having been born in Calgary, nd having resided in this God-forsaken climate for 66 years (ironic), y wife & I moved to Canada’s west coast in May 2015. Part of our down-sizing is for me to “lighten up” the accumulation of some forty years of living in the same home. So my contribution is to pass along this classic collector’s vehicle to someone else who can appreciate what’s there. And, f the new owner chooses, e/she can take the restoration to the next level, nter it in another NCRS sanctioned meet, nd earn a Top Flight award. Farewell. Manuals/Paperwork:
The vehicle comes with the original owner's manual, he aluminum wheel maintenance guide, M/FM radio instruction booklet, nd antenna hang card. The correct plastic owner's manual bag that holds the manuals is also included. There are some original California registration cards along with a few California DVM receipts dating back to 1967. There are also several NCRS books, anuals, nd guides including the NCRS Judging Guide, pecifications Guide, nd an Assembly Instruction Manual. All the paperwork and score sheets from the NCRS judging meet in 2014 will go along with the vehicle. Reserve Price: Please don't ask what the "Reserve Price" is, r if we have a "Buy it Now" price.
