1963 Cadillac Coupe de Ville Convertible

MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to offer another early 1960s Cadillac in the form of this 1963 Coupe de Ville Convertible that is beautifully finished in white exterior with a new ivory, power-folding top and green leather interior. It was manufactured in General Motors' Detroit factory during the third week of May 1963.

Finished in white, the car's paint and trim are in overall very good order but there are some blemishes visible upon close inspection. The windows are clear and intact while the car's lights are intact and haze-free. The car rides on Remington whitewall tires surrounding 15-inch steel wheels topped with factory turbine style wheel covers.

The car's bodywork is straight and the car has a newer, ivory, power-folding convertible top and related components. The engine bay is tidy, the battery appears new but the bumpers show some blemishes upon close inspection and the windshield wipers are inoperable.

Under the hood is a rebuilt 390 CID V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor buttoned to a Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission. Though it remained the same displacement, Cadillac completely redesigned its V-8 engine for 1963, the first clean sheet design since it started life at 331 CID in 1949. The new engine was quieter, smoother, more efficient, one inch lower, four inches narrower and 1.25 inches shorter than the 1962 engine. Thanks to using an aluminum accessory drive, the 1963 engine also weighed about 82 pounds fewer than its predecessor. Driver convenience features on this car include power steering, power brakes, power front seat and Soft-Ray glass.

Inside, the green leather seats look fantastic while the matching carpet is in decent order. The instrument panel is finished in two-tone green and looks good, as does the two-spoke steering wheel, the inner door panels, mirror glass and shift lever. The fuel and temperature gauges are inoperable.

In overall terms, 1963 Cadillac was essentially the same as the previous year. Exterior changes imparted a bolder and longer look. Hoods and deck lids were redesigned. The front fenders projected 4.625 inches further forward than in 1962 while the tailfins were trimmed down somewhat to provide a lower profile. Body-side sculpturing was entirely eliminated. The slightly V-shaped radiator grille was taller and now incorporated outer extensions that swept below the flush-fender dual headlamps. Smaller circular front parking lamps were mounted in those extensions. A DeVille signature script was incorporated above the lower beltline molding near the rear of the body. A total of 143 options including bucket seats with wool, leather, or nylon upholstery fabrics and wood veneer facings on dash, doors, and seatbacks, set an all-time record for interior appointment choices. Standard equipment was the same as the previous year.

Competitors to this Cadillac in 1963 were Buick's Wildcat Convertible, Chrysler's 300K Convertible and Mercury's Park Lane Convertible.
