Description:

1971 Cadillac Eldorado Base Convertible 2-Door

The last rear-wheel-drive Eldorado rolled off the assembly line in 1966, and in that model year, it only came in a convertible. Fast forward 5 years to 1971, the Eldorado convertible is reintroduced as a replacement for the DeVille convertible. The 501 series engine, a massive 500 cu.in. big block, was introduced in 1970 and was fitted only into the Commercial Chassis and the Eldorado. The '71 Eldorado convertible was the first Cadillac convertible ever to receive the 500 cu.in. engine. What I have for you today is the DOCUMENTED VERY FIRST, NUMERO UNO, #1 Eldorado Convertible to ever roll off the production line with a factory 500 cu.in. big block, the largest mass produced engine ever made. She is a running and driving project ready for your full attention. Look up key words "'71 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible #1" on YouTube to see a video of the engine compartment with motor running. The body clearly has a lot of cancer, but other than the ugly that you see, there is some good news; The engine with a numbers-correct reman 780cfm Quadrajet seems to run well and starts every time, the top goes up and down, and in fact, the scissor-top frame is in exceptional condition, the glass all around is intact, including the defroster glass in the rag-top, the window motors all work, although the tracks need help. The bumpers are straight, and all the trim works appears to be accounted for. The back seat looks to be in good shape, and you could probably treat the front seats and continue to use them for a while. The wheel wells are visibly solid, as is the trunk floor. Three of the floor pans also are visibly intact, only the passenger rear has an obvious hole in it. I do have the skirts, although the right side is rusted. It runs down the road smoothly on fresh tires, steers with no issue, and stops... sort of. It feels and smells like the front left caliper is hanging up. Plan on the brakes needing a complete overhaul. In fact, plan on just about everything on this car needing some measure of your attention. I've got a '72 of the same model that I am giving my time and money to, and as you can clearly see, this car needs a body specialist, and I am not that guy. So please, buy this car, love it, and restore it! Don't make me use it as a parts car! (although with a little help from MTS, that 500 could be really fun in my '72 Stingray) Happy bidding.
