NO RESERVE
1966 CADILLAC DeVILLE CONVERTIBLE - A TRUE GARAGE FIND (BARN FIND) IN ORIGINAL CONDITION! REMARKABLY STRAIGHT, SOLID, COMPLETE, ORIGINAL, AND ESSENTIALLY RUST-FREE! IN NEED OF A COMPLETE RESTORATION - NOT RUNNING AND WILL REQUIRE TRAILERING.
This car is owned by my friend Lee (77-years old) and the car is physically located in his garage in St. Petersburg Florida. Lee drove this car into the garage in 1996 where it has now been sitting untouched for 21-years. He intended restore it but never got around to it. Lee believes he is the 2nd owner of this car - He purchased it in February 1968 as an “OK Used Car” (similar to today's “Certified Pre-Owned”) from Hubacher Cadillac in Sacramento California where he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. When he was transferred to Florida in 1976 he brought the car with him. Both Lee and the car have been here ever since. This Caddy was mostly a daily driver from 1968 through 1996 when Lee drove it into his garage and it hasn't moved since.
A GORGEOUS 1966 CADILLAC DeVILLE IN THE UPGRADED COBALT FIREMIST BLUE PAINT, BLUE INTERIOR, AND WHITE CONVERTIBLE SOFT TOP. HIGHLY OPTIONED FOR 1966 WITH AM/FM RADIO; TILT AND TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL; FIREMIST PAINT UPGRADE; CRUISE CONTROL; REMOTE TRUNK RELEASE; 6-WAY POWER SEAT; POWER WINDOWS AND POWER VENT WINDOWS (no air conditioning which was not unusual for convertibles in 1966). ODOMETER CURRENTLY READS 189,000 MILES, BELIEVED ORIGINAL. THE ENGINE WAS GIVEN A MAJOR OVERHAUL IN 1983 AT APPROXIMATELY 160,000 MILES - AND LOWER COMPRESSION PISTONS WERE INSTALLED AT THAT TIME TO ALLOW THE USE OF “REGULAR” GAS. AFTER DRIVING IT ANOTHER 29,000 MILES LEE DROVE IT INTO HIS GARAGE IN 1996. THE U-JOINTS INCLUDING CV JOINT WERE REPLACED IN 1991. NEW CONVERTIBLE TOP WAS INSTALLED IN 1992. THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, CONVERTIBLE TOP, WINDOWS, RADIO, AND ALL SWITCHES, etc. (EXCEPT THE CRUISE CONTROL) WERE WORKING FINE WHEN LEE PARKED THE CAR IN 1996.
THE GOOD:
1. VERY SOLID, STRAIGHT, COMPLETE, ESSENTIALLY RUST-FREE CALIFORNIA /TEXAS/ FLORIDA CAR - BODY PANELS ARE SUPER STRAIGHT AND SOLID WITH NO DENTS or DINGS (has one surface scrape on drivers side - SEE close-up image). 2. VERY SOLID FLOOR PANS ALL AROUND INCLUDING THE TRUNK, WITH MAYBE SOME ISOLATED AREAS OF SCALING OR FAINT SURFACE RUST BUT ZERO ROT. 3. ALL CHROME INCLUDING BUMPERS, GRILL, HEADLIGHT AND TAIL-LIGHT SURROUNDS, WINDSHIELD FRAME, WINDOW SURROUNDS, BODY AND INTERIOR TRIM, BADGES, AND SCRIPT PRESENT AND IN VERY GOOD OR BETTER CONDITION WITH NO PITTING, DENTS, DINGS, OR BROKEN PARTS - JUST IN NEED OF POLISHING. 4. BRAND NEW “ROBBINS” CONVERTIBLE TOP INSTALLED IN 1992 AND APPEARS TO BE IN VERY GOOD+ OR BETTER CONDITION WITH NO DRY-ROT. 5. GLASS REAR WINDOW IN CONVERTIBLE TOP IS FINE. 6. ALL WINDOW GLASS IS PRESENT WITH NO CHIPS OR CRACKS. 7. NO SAG TO THE DOORS, WITH PROPER GAPS, AND BOTH THE HOOD AND THE TRUNK WORK FINE. 8. NO CRACKS OR TEARS TO THE ORIGINAL PADDED DASH BOARD. 9. DASHBOARD LOOKS FINE AND THE CHROMED RADIO PARTS AND INSTRUMENT BEZELS ARE NOT PITTED. 10. VERY NICE STEERING WHEEL WITH NO CRACKS. 11. ALL FOUR (4) ORIGINAL WHEEL COVERS (HUB CAPS) ARE PRESENT AND IN VERY GOOD+ OR BETTER CONDITION. 12. THE ENTIRE INTERIOR IS COMPLETE AND GENERALLY PRESENTABLE BUT WILL NEED SEAT REUPHOLSTERY AT A MINIMUM. 13. THE ORIGINAL JACK AND SPARE ARE PRESENT. 14. ORIGINAL KEYS FROM 1966 AND ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL; 1966 CADILLAC and GM FISHER BODY SHOP MANUALS 15. CLEAR FLORIDA TITLE. 16. THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE PERFECTLY FUNCTIONAL PARTS ON THIS CAR ARE PROBABLY WORTH ABOUT TWICE WHAT LEE IS ASKING FOR THIS COMPLETE, EXCELLENT CANDIDATE FOR RESTORATION - AND IT IS WORTHY OF RESTORATION.
THE BAD:
1. NOT RUNNING AND WILL REQUIRE SOME DEGREE OF MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL WORK TO GET IT RUNNING AGAIN - WILL NEED TO BE TRAILERED. 2. THE ELECTRICAL FEED TO THE BODY HAS BEEN INTERRUPTED FOR REASONS UNKNOWN AND WILL REQUIRE TROUBLE-SHOOTING BEFORE LIGHTS, WINDOWS, SEATS, CONVERTIBLE TOP, etc. WILL WORK. 2. BODY IS REMARKABLY SOLID AND STRAIGHT BUT THE PAINT IS OLD, WORN, AND OXIDIZED AND WOULD BE IN NEED OF A RE-PAINT. 3. THE SEAT UPHOLSTERY AT A MINIMUM WILL NEED TO BE RE-DONE, BUT THE ENTIRE INTERIOR SHOULD PROBABLY BE RESTORED INCLUDING DOOR PANELS, AND CARPETING, etc. 4. THE TIRES ARE OLD AND PROBABLY DRY-ROTTED BUT AT LEAST HOLDING AIR.
