Elegance and precision in one package, MotoeXotica Classic Cars is excited to present this 1968 Cadillac Coupe de Ville Convertible, finished in it’s correct shade of Topaz Gold Firemist (paint code #94). Firemist Pint was invented by Englehard Industries. Cadillac first used it in 1964. It was a premium paint process using larger and reflective quality metallic “specks”. In later years unique (not shared with Cadillac) Firemist colors were also available at extra cost on premium Oldsmobiles, such as the Toronado & Ninety-Eight. In todays market, factory Firemist optioned Cadillacs are very sought after by collectors.

Dressed in Topaz Gold Firemist paint with a white, power-folding top, the paint and trim are in near excellent condition overall. We noticed just a minor blemish on the driver’s door. The glass panels are clear and haze-free and in overall very good order, including the glass backlight. The droptop’s lights are in all in very good shape, as are its whitewall tires surrounding factory wheel covers. This Cadillac’s body panels are solid and straight and the white top is new. The car originally came from the factory with a black convertible top. The speedometer and odometer are inoperable. The engine bay is extremely tidy and the bumpers are in very good condition. Driver convenience features include automatic climate control, cruise control, power steering, power brakes, power front bench seat, power mirrors, power windows and power locks. The climate control, power windows and power brakes were all recently serviced.

In 1968, grilles had an insert with finer mesh and step down outer section, which held the rectangular parking lights just a little higher than before. Rear end styling was modestly altered with the deck lid having more of a rake. The most obvious change was an 8.5-inch-longer hood designed to accommodate recessed windshield wiper-washers, which now came with three speeds standard. Of 20 exterior paint color combinations, 14 were totally new. Side marker lights in the rear bumper as well as front fender were also added. Side mirror changed from a round to rectangular shape. Also of note, front disc brakes were available starting in 1968.

Under the big hood is a 472 CID V-8, its first year of use in the Devilles. It has a four-barrel carburetor and 10.5:1 compression. The engine is mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the black leather seats are in great shape, as is the matching carpet. The instrument panel is in similar very good shape while the three-spoke steering wheel, door panels, mirror glass and shift lever are in good order. Rounding out the spacious interior is a factory AM radio. On the inside, enriched appointments included molded inner door panels with illuminated reflectors and a selection of 147 upholstery combinations, 76 in cloth, 67 in leather and four in vinyl. New standard features included a Light Group, a Mirror Group, a trip odometer and an ignition key warning buzzer. 1968 was also the last year for the “stacked” dual headlights, which were replaced with side-by-side dual headlights in 1969. This was also the last year for vent windows.

Documentation includes the original owner’s manual.

Competition to this Deville in 1968 included Chrysler’s 300 Convertible with a 440 V-8 and Torqueflite and Mercury’s Park Lane Convertible Super Marauder with a 428 V-8.

If you seek an entry pass into the world of collectible cars, this Deville is it. It oozes style and panache yet has loads of space for family and friends to enjoy some top-down motoring adventures, too!

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 20,754 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
