1958 Cadillac Other

Beautiful Garage Find 58 Cadillac Series 62, last driven in 1986. One owner with only 19,824 original miles as indicated by some documentation and neighbors. This vehicle was purchased at Cornwall Motors in Chester Pa. in May 1958 by a Mr. Hodge, for his wife. The original Cadillac ID card is still in tact and affixed to the grille support. (see picture)The address on the ID card is where the garage was that this car was removed from. The husband since passed and the wife remarried. She recently passed in her eighties. The house contents were auctioned off in an estate sale this past March, which included this Caddy buried in her cinder block garage covered with cardboard boxes full of junk. (See picture)
Original black Lacquer paint still shines beautifully. There is NO RUST OR ROT on this vehicle. Original Floor pans, trunk floor inner and outer rockers are rock solid. NO patch panels or replacement body parts...all original. This car has been in a dry garage the last 30 years. Doors open and close solid as new. The door and trunk weather stripping is all original and still supple and pliable. NO cracking or rot. This vehicle does not have power windows or air conditioning.
The cloth interior is blue and is still pliable and no sign of dry rot or wear. Headliner and door panels are beautiful. No tears in seats or headliner. Gorgeous dash with no cracks.
This car was resurrected from its tomb and brought back to life. A new gas tank was installed, (Refer to the one picture that shows the red trunk floor when the gad tank was removed) as was new fuel pump, new battery, new water pump, and all new tune up components including coil. New Hoses and belts, fluids, oil, filters, also installed. Brake lines and cylinders were replaced and brake system flushed filled and bled. Brake shoes are in exc condition. This vehicle had been state inspected in 1986 only a hundred miles or so ago. See back of Inspection sticker photo. Writing is light but readable.
The cylinder heads were removed due to indications and concern of sticking valves from old leaded fuel varnish. The heads were hot tanked, examined, new seals installed and put back on the car. (Refer to picture of heads before re-installation) NO machine work was required. Everything was in beautiful condition. The engine was cleaned up and detailed back to its original beauty. Engine runs very very nice...Carb could use some tweaking. The transmission shifts beautifully. The car still has the H78-15 tires on it from the 80's which includes two rear snow tires. The tires do need replacing due to flat spots. The trunk is in beautiful original condition as shown in photos.
The original chrome bumpers and all stainless bright-work are beautiful and original. One hubcap has very light scrape mark on the edge. The front lower bumper is beautiful and original, however the upper wrap around front pieces do have some pitting. The door flippers work as new. The power antenna goes up and down like new. The radio does light up but does not play at the time of this writing. All lights, signals, wipers, work as new.
Original Delco spiral shocks are still on the car. The booklets for the car and original ID card are included. Many man hours were involved in getting this girl back up to par and looking beautiful. The paint has some blemished on the front top of the fenders. NO indication of rust anywhere on the car.
My buddy and I enjoyed bringing this girl back to life so that she can be enjoyed and driven for hopefully another 60 years.
NEEDS: New tires, exhaust system, carburetor tweaking.
