Description:

1964 Buick Riviera Coupe

This car is a rare and exceptional example of perhaps the most beautiful American car ever produced. Here is the history of the car:
Was owned by a GM executive who originally purchased the car from Rudd Buick in Burlingame California in 1964. The car was originally registered in CA and the car comes with its California black license plates and Protecto Plate. The car was later moved to the dry climate Utah, where it spent the remainder of its life until I bought it last year to bring back to its full glory. (See before and after pics.) The car sat in a dry garage for many years and what interested me most was that it is a highly optioned and completely original car. It has not been messed with in any way. Factory original options include:
Woodgrain steering wheel. (I have owned 20 of these first gen Rivieras and this wood wheel is in the best condition of any I have EVER seen.) Perfect horn bar and no cracks in the wheel. Steering wheel alone in this condition is worth $1,500. Horn works, too.
White interior with original black carpet. Yes, this is an original factory interior color combination and its stunning. Although leather was not an option in 64, I redid the seats in soft white leather as they are much more comfortable than vinyl. Smells good, too.
The car was recently repainted in its original Wedgewood baby blue color at great expense with all trim being removed from the car prior to prep and paint. I replaced the carpet and recovered dash pad. The headliner and visors are original and all interior stainless cleaned and polished. New package tray.
Great expense, time and effort were spent on bringing the cosmetics and engine back to life. Believed to have 67K original miles. Engine is original to car (matches the VIN) and stamped with the correct "K" code on the block indicating it is a true Super Wildcat engine package. All of the following was performed by the most qualified first generation Buick mechanic in Las Vegas:
- Dual matching carbs were rebuilt and adjusted. Work great.- All new belts and hoses.- New shocks.- New alternator and starter.- All fluids drained and replaced.- New radiator core.- All AC parts replaced except EC suction throttle valve. Compressor works fine.- New battery.- Transmission adjusted and serviced the three speed shifts very smooth.- Nicely restored under hood and engine bay.
Car runs like beautifully and hauls those 4500 lbs of Detroit steel easily down the road.
The car is not perfect and in my estimation could use the following minor updates to bring to the next level:
- windshield has a small circle crack from a rock.- One of the tail light inserts could be replaced as it has some pitting.- Bumpers look fine, but have some scratches and could use a re-chrome.- Speedometer works, but jumps at lower speeds.- AC needs charged and serviced.- Most of the walnut veneer inserts are original, so could be updated.
Factory Radio Reverb: Yes, it works.Factory Cruise Control: Works.Interior lights work, dash and shifter lights up with headlights.Heater: Works. New heater core installed (that was a job) and all vents cleaned and operational.Clock: works.Power Windows: All work; with the rear quarter windows working slowly.New door rubber and trunk rubber.Door panels are original to the car with the armrest pads being recovered and new chrome side covers.
There is zero rust on this car.Have Utah title in hand.New dual exhaust.New tires.New antenna base and restored rear window ribbed panel.
Professionally restored Turbine wheel covers (see pics); they are very rare and expensive. $1000 and up for a nice set. They were an upgraded option original to the car.
Trunk recovered in original looking mesh material. Absolutely zero rust in the trunk pan.New "Riviera" emblems on fenders and all stainless was cleaned and/or polished. There is one ding on one side wheel well as shown.
I have way over $25,000 into the car (not including purchase price), so I am not going to give it away, but I have my eye on another car at this time.
Come inspect the car. Happy to answer any questions as I have owned many of these cars and know a lot about them. I also know the challenges of potentially buying a car across country, so happy to talk "Rivs" with you. I have almost 20 years on eBay buying and selling and I have perfect feedback. Can store in my garage for a time once car is paid for in full. Transportation responsibility of buyer.
