I am an enthusiast that has enjoyed this car for more than 27 years. The car was imported into Calgary, lberta, anada from Austria by a BMW mechanic that worked at T&T BMW (now Calgary BMW). The car was purchased by a professional hockey player who had the car restored by Remi's Carosserie, high end body shop in Calgary that later became Continental Autobody. The drivetrain, lass and interior were removed and the car was repainted in the original Fjord Blue. The Alpina wheels and air dam were added at this time. All of the restoration work was done before I purchased the car in August, 988. I bought the car with 51250 km (31,852 miles) on the odometer. I had the car painted in 1992 and the body has not been touched in 23 years. The body and paint are in excellent condition with the exception of a few minor blemishes in the paintwork, ne on the top of the front fender on the passenger side, second near the bottom of the door on the passenger side, nd a few imperfections in front of the sunroof. I tried to capture these imperfections in the photos. I should note that these imperfections have not worsened in more than 10 years and could be easily touched up. As a vintage car collector myself I would prefer to see what I am buying and as a result I have not had these repairs done prior to offering the vehicle for sale. The condition of the body is a testament to the quality of the work performed nearly 3 decades ago. The chrome is in excellent condition. I had the lower rear mouldings on the rear quarter windows re-chromed in 1992, ut no other chrome work has been done since. The interior of the car is in good condition, lthough there is a wear spot in the driver's side floor mat that was repaired and the headliner has some staining. The front portion of the headliner, nd the sun visors were replaced at some point but for some unknown reason the rear portion of the headliner that includes the sunroof was not restored. The sunroof has not leaked in the time I have owned the car. There is also a crack in the vinyl on the leading edge of the rear seat armrest that has been repaired. The car had shoulder belts added for the front seat passengers (before I purchased the car) and there was some cutting done to the rear armrests to accommodate the belt reels that in my opinion could have been finished more neatly. The original wood trim is in excellent condition with the exception of a lifting veneer that was re-glued in the rear seat area on the passenger side. I have replaced the door seals and the seal in front of the rear quarter windows this year and most of the remaining seals were changed when the car was restored. There is a chip in one of the rear plastic Blaupunkt speaker grills. The windshield is free of cracks but there is some pitting and a small cloudy spot where the glass has delaminated. The windshield may very well be original as it is a BMW product.
The car is in excellent mechanical condition. The brake calipers, otors and pads are relatively new. The original 4 speed transmission shifts smoothly and the car handles well with a solid road feel. The tires are vintage Bridgestone Potenza P205/60VR14 front and P215/60VR14 rear mounted on Alpina 7Jx14 H2 alloys.
I encourage all serious bidders to inspect or have their representative inspect the car before bidding. The condition of a vehicle is very subjective and my standards may differ from yours. Every effort has been made to describe the car as accurately as possible, nd I do not want to misrepresent the car in any way. I am available to answer any questions you may have and encourage you to call me at (587) 891 9733 to discuss the vehicle. Please note that the odometer reads in kilometers and the odometer reading may increase slightly during the auction period as I am driving the car.
