1991 BMW 318is ONE OWNER ORIGINAL PAINT AND INTERIOR Original Window Sticker, Manuals, Build Sheet, Etc. Well Optioned: 5spd, LSD, Sunroof, Fogs, AC, Sport Seats Recent Services, “Road Rally” in May 2020 One-Year-Only US-Market E30 318is Approximately 99k Miles We purchased this fantastic e30 318is in early 2020 from the original owner, a woman in Pennsylvania. This car is in impressive condition, especially considering that every panel still wears its original paint (confirmed with an elcometer), and the interior has never been refinished. Since purchasing the car, we have driven, serviced, and driven again, including 150+ miles of spirited driving on country back roads. As it sits now, this car is ready to be purchased and thoroughly enjoyed straightaway. This car is one we’re really going to struggle to watch leave. Services since our acquisition include a going-through of the cooling system (replace radiator and coolant reservoir), replacement of brake pads and rotors at all four corners, a new fuel pump, and oil/filter. We’ve also had some bubbling at the forward corners of the rockers professionally repaired and refinished (black portion, did not have to touch the original white paint). Exterior: Please see the video along with the listing, as the car is shown in detail. Blemishes are all shown close-up. Blemishes include a few little dings, a scratch on top of the driver’s fender near where it meets the cowl, paint aging on the rear spoiler, and a couple very light bumper scuffs. Body is nice and dry, with the only rust being a tiny bit around the license plate light on the passenger side (minor – see photo from rear). Alpine White paint is original throughout, and we have put a paint gauge on every panel and confirmed it (3.1-3.8). Looks great – no signs of being buffed thin, no fade, peeling, or discoloring. Rockers and front spoiler have been refinished in black. Weatherstripping is in nice shape throughout, not dry or brittle. Sunroof is manually operated, and seals up nice and tight. No body panels have ever been removed; panel gaps are spot on, and the doors open and close nice and smoothly. Wheels are in good shape, with just the slightest bit of road wear. Falken tires are in nice shape, the fronts having been replaced in 2016 at 95,618 miles and the rears in 2017 at 97,841 miles according to service records. BMW prop badge on the rear is peeling, badge on front shows minor age. Overall, this is truly a very nice, honest “survivor” example. Unfortunately for us, this car’s odometer just quit working very recently. It is now stuck at 98,496 miles, and removing the cluster to fix it is not a job we’re interested in diving into at the moment. We know the current reading of 98,496 is extremely close to the current actual miles, considering information from the original owner (we were in contact regarding the car for over a year prior to purchasing), consistent service records, and original condition of wear items consistent with that mileage. Interior: Again, please defer to the photos and video. Interior is pretty impressive. Black sport seats are in great shape and have never been reupholstered. There’s a bit of age cracking on the driver’s outer seat back bolster – again, check out the photos. There are two tiny little nicks/partial splits in the dash that are roughly 1cm each, one at the corner of the parcel holder above the glovebox, and one to the left top of the cluster. Original grey carpeting is fairly discolored in the backseat foot area, not bad elsewhere. We’d recommend just getting a nice set of floormats for the car (checkered Coco Mats would look amazing...). Power windows are functional. Heat/fan is functional. R12 air conditioning still blows cold. Original radio and antenna are functional. Gauge cluster looks great, doesn’t have any of the greying/oxidation we so often see on BMWs and Mercedes of this era. Gauges are all functional with the aforementioned exception of the odometer. Headliner is clean, tight, and original, free of any water stains or damage. Sun visors hold their position. Something to note for BMW nerds – the contents of the original toolkit in the trunk are no longer with the car. Underbody/Under the Hood: Please take a look at the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. In nice shape for an unrestored E30. Some surface rust on various suspension components, certainly nothing of concern. This car is an excellent driver. Fires right up, idles smooth and steady, pulls through the gears, shifts smoothly and has great clutch feel, tracks straight, brakes straight and effectively, and stays nice and cool. This car will come with fantastic documentation. This includes the original window sticker, manuals, temporary plate, first registration, and clean one-owner CarFax/Autocheck. In addition, the original build sheet is still fully intact and glued to the underside of the rear seat. Service records include the aforementioned tires, brake pads and rotors, radiator, coolant reservoir, fuel pump, and oil changes. Both outer tie rods were replaced in July 2017. The head gasket has also been replaced, though we are not positive as to when – our mechanic let us know during a thorough initial delivery evaluation that the head gasket had definitely been replaced, though we do not have record of exactly when. We can also provide records of the rocker refinishing, done this year at Albany Auto Chicago. Buy with confidence, this car has seen plenty of recent service and subsequent exercise, and is ready for an active summer. Until it sells, we’ll continue to enjoy.
