Description:

1987 BMW 6-Series L6

1987 BMW L6 (Luxury). Just as the M6 was the performance variant, this was a one year production fully loaded model with all options plus extra leather enhancements such as leather wrapped dash, door panels, and headliner. All L6 models came standard with automatic transmission. The car has 217k miles and has been well maintained throughout the years. A large folder of receipts is included with the car. No oil leaks. Sunroof does not leak. all power windows and sunroof are operational. The body is exceptionally straight. there are no noticeable door dings or damage other than a small dent in front of the hood as noted in the photo. Otherwise no accident history. Paint and all body panels are original. The paint has watermarks, fine scratches/imperfections and could use a good polish, although exceptional for the age of the car. There is no rust at all - southern California car.Selling because it has not been driven in the last 6 months. It has been started occasionally and fuel is good. Battery is less than 2 years old. Engine and transmission function well but I believe the cold start valve is failing because the idle surges when cold and stabilizes once at operating temperature. I am not familiar with these engines but may need some work to pass smog in California, although I have not attempted. There is a shimmy in the front end between 65 and 70 mph that is due to the radius arm bushings as noted in the maintenance records. The air conditioning needs to be recharged. The release button for the emergency brake handle is missing so you have to use an object such as a pen to release. The shifter lockout mechanism is not working so you can take it out of park without pressing the brake pedal as it is designed. The dash needs work or covered to be presentable and there is wear on the driver seat as well as the driver door panel, otherwise the interior is decent considering the age. The original spare wheel/tire is in place as well as the tool kit.I have not seen another L6 on the road. I have had a lot of confused BMW enthusiasts comment on or ask questions about the car during my travels. It is a fun car to drive and very unique.Feel free to ask any questions that you might have, Thank you for the interest!
