1981 BMW 5-Series

This is an example of a car owned by an enthusiast that threw a lot of money at it but never really reached the goal of exploiting the full potential of all the mods. I bought it knowing it needed some expert care after sitting for a few years. The previous owner had it it to more than a few west coast shops to clear up a running problem & was never able to correct the defect. It's fine now.
The mods include a 3.0 engine (maybe 3.3 ), arge front sway bar, teel braided brake lines, owering springs, ucked in bumpers, ew exhaust, ront strut tower brace, ear differential brace, ear mounted battery, ater alloy wheels, amp; probably a bunch of other stuff i haven't thought of.
As for condition, here is no rust to speak of other than a patch of surface rust under the lower trim of the rear window as pictured. Pans, trut towers, enders are rust free. This vehicle spent most of it's life in california. Body wise, here are a few dents, ne on the top of the hood, ne on the beak of the hood, dent on the left rear flank, looks like a serious door ding ), amp; some minor door dings. Overall, retty remarkable for an original paint 35 year old car.
It runs good. doesn't smoke, o wierd noises, oesn't overheat, uns strong. Shifts good, ynchros are good up & down, rakes are fine, lutch is good. I put a new guibo (flex disc) in the driveshaft & the u joints were tight. The diff is NOT a limited slip. There is a slight hiss with the clutch pedal down indicating wear in the clutch release (throw out ) bearing.
I believe the weak point of the car is the interior. Although it has recaro seats, t some point someone gave it a complete Tijuana tuck & roll job. And not a very good one. The carpets were also replaced with bad fitting aftermarket black. It has a sport steering wheel. No radio. The fan switch & sliding heater controls need replaced. Power windows work great.
Good news. Included is a ton of spare parts. A complete console assembly with working heater controls, xtra computer, arger injectors & fuel rail, ir flow meter, riginal tan interior door panels, n oil cooler assembly, amp; just a ton of literature & magazines with E12 projects & a bunch more stuff.
This is the kind of car you can drive to work during the week & restore it on your driveway on weekends. Oh, eah. It needs a catalytic converter to pass IM 240 emissions inspection. The PO had a complete new fabricated exhaust installed that did not include the cat. I opened up the air flow meter & adjusted the fuel mixture with a CO meter so it will pass on specs but will need a cat.
